Just heard an interesting story from the LP convention about an altercation that took place earlier tonight. Apparently, it all went down at an event put on by the Libertarians for Justice. Long-shot presidential candidate John Finan spoke for a bit and was then asked to sign the L4J pledge demanding a full investigation into the 9/11 attacks. I guess the group is a “9/11 Truthers” organization or whatever… I’d only heard of them a couple times in the past.
Anyway, Finan did not react well to being “ambushed” by this pledge and he and group leader Jim Duensing started to get into it.
Observers are telling me that Finan was ranting and raving and refused to return some sort of fancy marker that Duensing had given him to sign the pledge with.
Eventually, it got so heated that Finan was actually escorted out of the area.
And this is only the first night.
UPDATE from G.E. who was actually in the room at the time…
Back to Finan — he was screaming “I will not be pressured!” and when the mic was taken from him, he raised his voice and said, “I don’t need a microphone!” He also said he would be on Letterman, Oprah, and Conan, and he would win if nominated.

Well… 2004 had lots of nutty candidates, too
***
Will you name them for me? Russo? Nolan?
New York has a fine history of good representation by its candidates, Hillary, Spitzer, Fossello.
We can expect no less from our Libertarian brethren.
Just de-coupled my aggregator from TPW. It was very easy now that I’ve found IPR.
Well… 2004 had lots of nutty candidates, too.
I hope everyone can understand when you take a chainsaw (instead of a carving knife) to the Platform, you welcome kooks from every direction. Finan, Imperato, Milnes !Never forget this year as proof of the ’06 blunder of butchering the Platform.
You moderates need to support restoring the ’04 Platform and work from there, carving where needed not destroying…
Oh, Finan also claims to have raised $250,000 for the LP on his motorcycle pilgrimage.
I think he had one guy with him, but that might have been security escorting him out. He certainly had no entourage.
Maybe Tucker Carlson is his VIP guest? 🙂
Looks like he was riding his motorcycle to the convention. His website makes some pretty big claims…
“In a recent poll 87% of Party Members want a candidate that can deliver the Party’s Message to the people of the country, and John M. Finan is seen as the perfect choice by many Party Members.
At The Convention We Will Have:
1. Full Sized Exhibit Booth
2. Participation in Speeches and Debates
3. Free Concert Featuring The FINAN ’08 Campaign Theme Song “I CAN HEAR YOU CALLING” Written by American Singer Songwriter ROB CANNILLO
4. Extraordinary Multi-Media Presentation
5. V.I.P. Guest Vice Presidential Candidate”
he was screaming “I will not be pressured!†and when the mic was taken from him, he raised his voice and said, “I don’t need a microphone!†He also said he would be on Letterman, Oprah, and Conan, and he would win if nominated.
That sounds like a textbook case of delusionalism, and that’s not cool.
Did he have any “staff” or whatever along with him? I checked his MySpace page and he’s only got 4 friends. Including Tom. 🙁
I would bet he wins 5 delegates or less.
Yes, was there, and that’s how it went down.
I wouldn’t demean L4J as “Truthers,” which has taken on a derogatory connotation. There is a government coverup with 9/11, as with all things the government does, and L4J demands the government answer some questions — I share their view.
Back to Finan — he was screaming “I will not be pressured!” and when the mic was taken from him, he raised his voice and said, “I don’t need a microphone!” He also said he would be on Letterman, Oprah, and Conan, and he would win if nominated.
haha…wow.
