Green Party VP candidate speaking at InPDUM Convention
Sat., Sept. 27 in St. Petersburg
‘We are not the alternative ; we are the imperative.’ -Rosa Clemente
St. Petersburg, FL – Rosa Clemente, vice presidential candidate for Cynthia McKinney’s Green Party presidential bid, will be a featured speaker on Sat., Sept 27 at the annual convention of the Int’l People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement being held in St. Petersburg. (see: www.inpdum.org )
The first, all women of color, historic presidential ticket of McKinney/Clemente, brings a new and essential perspective to vital issues our nation is facing.
Ms. Clemente, a Puerto Rican Hip Hop activist and journalist, born in the Bronx, graduate of the University of Albany and Cornell University says, ” I feel that many African American, indigenous, Asian, Latino youth in this country, mostly working class, are completely disenfranchised and marginalized from a two-party system. There’s over 40 percent of young people that still have not registered to vote, which shows their dissatisfaction with both the Republicans and Democrats. I see me being nominated as a powerful move, not just for me, not for Cynthia, not even just the Green Party, but for an entire people who see the Green Party no longer as the alternative, but the imperative, for us to live a social justice, freedom, democracy type of life. And that’s what young people in particular are looking for.”
In 2003, Rosa helped form and coordinate the first ever National Hip Hop Political Convention that drew over 3000 activists who came together to create and implement a national political agenda for the Hip-Hop generation. 10 days after Hurricane Katrina ravaged parts of the south, Rosa traveled to the areas as an independent journalist and her on the ground reports were reported on independent radio stations all over the world, including Air America, NPR, Pacifica Radio, Democracy Now, Indy media, Hard Knock Radio and many more independent and mainstream media outlets.
Rosa Clemente will appear on the Florida ballot in November as Cynthia McKinney’s running mate.
