Proportional Representation Party: ‘Cognitive Dissonance, or the Ability to Accept a Contradictory Reality’

Posted by Pete Healey at PRParty.org, in reference to the Democrats and Republicans:

Most of us have one foot in the age that’s passing into history and one foot in the age that’s just being born. At the moment all we can do is stand and gape at those who fight each other across the chasm of these ages, one group with both feet firmly planted in the previous age and refusing to budge and the other the same. Their differences and disagreements matter little to us now and will be of no help to us in passing fully into the new age. How could they be helpful, these combatants from a bygone era? They fight mostly over positioning and the spoils of power. How could they possibly help us navigate into the new way of living that’s upon us? We need a political system and culture that allows other approaches and points of view, and all we get is the two parties from the previous age. What a pity!

About the PRP

Proportional Representation IS modern democracy. The PR Party is an organization founded in 2007 to promote the concepts of proportional representation in New York and the entire US. Most modern democracies in the world today use some form of PR to elect their local and national legislatures and we in this country ought to be doing the same. The time has come to replace the old fashioned two-party-winner-take-all politics that characterizes US politics, and PR provides a modern all-inclusive method of doing it.
