BTP Removes Tiffany Briscoe as Presidential Nominee

Members of the Boston Tea Party (BTP) have voted to remove student Tiffany Briscoe as the party’s presidential nominee. At the moment, she has been replaced with NOTA (None of the Above).

Briscoe, who falsely claimed she was a member of the Howard Community College Board of Trustees and a graduate of the school, was selected at the BTP’s nominating convention last December. After former opponent Robert Milnes discovered that Briscoe was just a student at the school, BTP chairman Darryl Perry requested she either step down or acknowledge the misrepresentation.  She took the latter route, and remained the party’s nominee.

Milnes then requested that the chair’s decision to not remove Briscoe be overturned, citing both the misrepresentation and her failure to make media appearances. After receiving four seconds, the matter was put before the community as a vote.  Rampant voting fraud forced Perry to invalidate four votes in support of Briscoe, resulting in a final tally of 9 to 3, meeting the 2/3 majority needed to overturn the chair.

After learning of the vote, Briscoe e-mailed Perry, explaining that she would ignore the membership and continue as the nominee. As posted in the March 2012 open thread, Perry responded:

Ms. Briscoe,
It’s hard to say what would have happened had you honestly represented yourself from the time you decided to seek the BTP nomination. However you did not and the members who voted based on a misrepresentation of facts. After it was discovered that you misrepresented yourself, you were given an opportunity to resign or admit your misrepresentation. Several members petitioned to overturn my acceptance of your statement admitting that you misrepresented yourself and the membership voted to remove you as the nominee. You are no longer the BTP Presidential nominee; to continue representing yourself as such is an act of fraud.
As Chair of the BTP, I will do everything in my power and ability to ensure you are not on any ballot or certified as a write-in candidate as the BTP nominee.

The BTP membership is now deciding whether NOTA will remain as the nominee, if vice presidential nominee Kimberly Johnson-Barrick will take over as the presidential nominee, or if a new convention will be held to select another candidate.

I say that as someone with a checkered past (to say the least) of my own, and as someone who has no interest in running for any office anywhere partially (but not entirely) as a result of that.

Smith himself is candid about much of his past at http://2006jwssite.url-site.com/

To my knowledge, however, Smith’s views are longstanding and genuinely libertarian. He also has at least some organizing talent, having gotten the bulk of the registrations and elector declarations to get Charles Jay on the ballot in Florida (Andy and I were hired to get them over the top at the end).

I believe that Smith would present an actual libertarian platform as the BTP nominee, and would make at least some effort to get on the ballot in some states, so I will rank him ahead of NOTA unless someone tells me something that I don’t already know from the attack links above.

BTP members should be aware of the negative information in making their decision.

I give Smith points for being up front about a lot of it.

Indeed, after the attacks made on me by the LNC on the topic of contributions to Presidential ballot access, I am giving them courtesy of not having to worry what I will be doing with respect to Presidential ballot access efforts, because I am not involved. I do remind my state chair ‘you need to round up 11 electors; I am not one’ ‘we need to clarify the party registration rule for electors’ ‘Collecting signatures and getting them validated will cost $35,000, and our state party Presidential Ballot Access account is at minus $840’ .

The motion to hold a new Presidential nominating convention has the support of the requisite number of party members to require a poll be opened. The poll will close at 7:35pm (CDT) on March 20.

If 2/3 of voting party members vote to hold a new nomination, it will be treated as an 11B convention in accordance with the bylaws with nominations opening immediately and the special nominating convention beginning March 30, 2012.

Personally I think its a hoot that the BTP’s online fantasy convention got punked by this fraud; but I was trying to be cordial to all involved because I’d hate to see a potential freedom fighter wasted. My suggestion that Ms. Briscoe re-focus on a local office was no different than when I suggest to Wayne Root that he run for Vegas mayor.

  28. justwondering justwondering March 10, 2012

What do you expect from a so-called political party that holds it’s nominating convention via internet polling where less than 30 people participate. Seriously, IPR, you give these people, pretending to be a political party, more credit than they deserve.

And this was supposed to be The Radicals oasis of freedom when they finally leave The LP. Promises, Promises!

Of course now George Phillies can become The Knight in Shining Armor a save The BTP from itself. Come on George, you know you want it and they would likely be happy to give you their nomination. Run George Run!

Thanks for your response. I take you at your word that the bylaws weren’t changed and that all the earlier discussion about how the BTP bylaws did not have a procedure for removing a nominee was just in error.

assuming that the college student and business owner is accurate

College student seems pretty solid, unless maybe someone is playing a prank on her without her knowledge, as she is listed on a few HCC documents as a candidate for graduation. Business owner seems very questionable at this stage; questions have been asked repeatedly, but not answered. I believe Darryl (or someone) found a business with a name similar to, but not exactly the one she claimed for her alleged store, but I have yet to see whether anyone called the place and confirmed whether it is in fact her.

she might have been turned into a decent candidate for city council or county office

Why would you think Darryl would possibly cheat to overturn his own decision?

The vote came about because Milnes put forth a motion and several of us seconded it; Darryl did not second it and if he says that ineligible votes were cast, I’m inclined to believe it’s because he is putting being a good steward of the process ahead of his own opinion.

I guess that answers which one is the real Tiffany – the one who can’t formulate a sentence. That makes it highly likely that Creveaux was writing everything before that and putting it in her name, and it would also help explain why she skipped the RT interview. It doesn’t explain why she was shy about posting photos, though. I wonder if the two we have seen to date are actually her or not?

  43. matt cholko matt cholko March 9, 2012

In Ms. Briscoe’s defense, it doesn’t really seem (in her first e-mail) that she is indicating that she intended to fraudulently claim that she was the nominee of the BTP. I think she was trying to be consiliatory – she meant something more like “I wish it hadn’t come to this. I still love the BTP. Please know that I don’t have any hard feelings.”

Clearly her words technically say something different. But, by the general tone of her e-mail I just get the feeling that she was hurt by the decision and was trying to send a nice breakup message.

In both e-mails however, she gives the impression that she is a 15 year olf girl emailing her friend. She certainly doesn’t sound like a candidate for POTUS talking about an important matter of business.

Tom, the BTP bylaws have not changed since the 2010 convention.

  56. Dr. Tom Stevens Dr. Tom Stevens March 9, 2012

The following section of the BTP Bylaws cannot possibly have been in there at the time Tiffany Briscoe was nominated and when she fully qualified as a candidate for President pursuant to the BTP Bylaws. When was this amendment added?

    ——————————–
The Chair shall take official notice of any candidate affirmations which may be fraudulent, and shall investigate, and issue a ruling as to the legitimacy of, such affirmations. The National Committee may, by a vote of four or more members, override the Chair’s ruling. It is the affirmative responsibility of the Chair and the National Committee to verify, to the greatest degree possible, the integrity of the nomination process.
    ———————————-

You cannot amend the bylaws after an event has taken place and expect it ex post facto to apply to the past event that was not inappropriate or cause for removal at the time.

I believe Tiffany Briscoe is still the BTP nominee. So she lied about her education. She shouldn’t have but that one fact should have been uncovered before she received the nomination. Once she got it, it’s hers as far as I am concerned.

But then again, I am no longer a member of the Boston Tea Party so it’s not up to me.
