Willie Nelson Says He’ll Be Roseanne Barr’s VP, Then Takes It Back

On May 12th, Willie Nelson appears to have accepted a previous offer made by Roseanne Barr to be her Vice Presidential running-mate for the Green Party nomination. He tweeted, “I would be happy to run w u After thinking about it awhile it kept sounding better Are u still interested? Love, Willie”.

Barr quickly shared this tweet around and then made some additional statements of Twitter of her own, announcing the selection of her Vice Presidential running mate. However, Mr. Nelson appears to have re-thought his stance and later backtracked, saying on Twitter, “Im not ready 2 get n2 politics I have stayed away this long I am content 2 sit on the sidelines & criticize every1 else.” and “Good luck with your campaign. Love, Willie”. Barr pleaded with Nelson, via Twitter, to reconsider and to contact her privately.

Perhaps Mr. Nelson discovered that it is mathematically impossible for Barr to win the Green Party nomination?

“Barr plead with Nelson, via Twitter, to reconsider and to contact her privately.”

    Wouldn’t that be “pleaded”?

“Perhaps Mr. Nelson discovered that it is mathematically impossible for Barr to win the Green Party nomination?”

I don’t think it’s mathematically impossible yet, although the trend seems abundantly clear.

Nevermind – I re-read that and you are right, it is in fact impossible. Earlier I thought it meant she was half way to locking it up, I see I misread that.

Paulie–yeah, pleaded. Fix that if ya care to. I’m swamped.

    Thanks, Paulie.

    Happy to help.

Looks like you beat me to that one 🙂

Roseanne Barr isn’t going to have a VP, Willie.

True. She could be VP tho.

It would be interesting, especially if she is willing to spend significant money on behalf of the campaign.

I think for it to work, though, she has to let Stein do most of the interviews, otherwise it makes little sense for Stein to be on top of the ticket.

    That may prove difficult.

Roseanne could put the GP back on the map. Stein is the endgame.

I told a friend of mine about Roseanne running. He sounded excited and said she could compete with Obama. As a FULL-BLOODED get all you can D as he is, I was surprised he said such a thing. However it goes back to Roseanne being a former TV Star which he and Millions watched weekly (and millions who still watch her syndicated shows). Who is Jill Stein ? My buddy doesn’t know and couldn’t care less. Name ID matters, as shown to the GP by Nader. A mistake will be made by the GP if they nominate Stein over Barr. People Know Roseanne Barr’s name. She holds the best posibility to increasing Party membership growth. Stein can oversee the decline into never never land !

Stein already has enough delegates to win.

From what I have read on the Green Party’s website, I don’t believe the delegates are bound to a particular candidate like they are in the Republican and Democratic conventions. A Green delegate could change their mind minutes before the convention starts. While Stein would be a better president than Barr, Barr has the name recognition that third parties need. I hope Barr wins the nomination so the Green Party can continue to grow.

Am I missing something? On Stein’s own web site at http://www.jillstein.org/vp_search_begins?utm_campaign=vp_search_begin&recruiter_id=1602&utm_medium=email&utm_source=jillstein it says that Stein has 105.5 delegates and 200.5 are needed to win the nomination. (NOT that there are 200.5 delegate votes in total — those numbers imply that there will be 400 delegate votes at the convention in all.) The majority of states have not selected their Green Party delegates yet (see the “Primaries” map appearing on the link), including such large states as California and New York.

I do believe that Jill Stein will be the Green Party presidential nominee this year and will not have trouble winning on the first ballot. However, according to her own web site, she has not mathematically clinched the nomination yet.

Joshua–yes, you’re missing something. You’re misreading the information.

200.5 delegates are possible, Stein has already won 105.5. She’s won over 75% of the delegates allocated thus far, which puts her over 50% of the possible delegates in the contest.

  10. paulie

Correction 401 are possible – Stein has 105.5 which is over 50% of what it takes to clinch a win (200.5)

  11. paulie

BTW at one point Nelson also apparently endorsed Gary Johnson than called it back. I sense a pattern here…

  12. paulie

Well let’s put it this way….

How old is Nelson? How long has he been legendary for using pot and all sorts of other drugs on a regular basis?

    Yeah.

  13. just asking

And who’s the poor bastard doing Willie’s PR walking this stuff back? Is there someone who hangs out with Willie all day doing his media and NOT smoking pot?
