Riley J. Hood: You Can’t Stay On High Alert Forever

Riley J. Hood is the chairman of the Constitution Party of Wisconsin. He was a write-in candidate for U.S. Senate in 2012 and received  70 votes. The CP of Wisconsin currently has 4 members in public office.

He ruleth by His power for ever; his eyes behold the nations:
let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.” Psalm 66:7

By Riley J. Hood-CPoW State Chairman

At the Waukesha County Fair a man came up me: full of debate; he was upset that the Constitution Party of Wisconsin cared too much about moral issues, and wasn’t emphasizing his liberal conspiracy theories. The man was a Libertarian, who supports the 911 Truth movement, saying, “The government could have stopped it.” I answered and said, “The government should punish crime, as to preventing it; no law can prevent every crime, and you can’t keep people on high alert forever.”

After the Marines pulled out of Beirut in 1984, the bombings and kidnappings increased. William Buckley Sr. was kidnapped and murdered; Mr. Klinghoffer was thrown overboard in his wheelchair when pirates seized the Achille Lauro. Robert Stretham; a Navy Diver was killed after the airplane he was on was hijacked. The perpetrators of these crimes were Islamic.

So what was America’s response? Invade Saudi Arabia, and rid the world of Islam? No, we haven’t had that caliber of leadership since WWII, when we rid the world of the NAZI Party. Ronald Reagan’s response was to set up Airport security stations to screen the oncoming passengers, to “prevent Air Piracy.” His response was one of perpetual defense, thinking he could keep America on high alert forever. Those screening stations did nothing to punish guilty, while they harassed innocent Americans.

The 911 attacks have proven the failure of such strategies. This attack which was more heinous than Pearl Harbor; where after 15 years, security became lax, and the strategy of the terrorists was slightly modified, ought to have been proof that people do not stay on high alert forever. So Bush43′s response was even more unimaginative than Reagan’s, by promising “more security,” thus more punishment for the innocent: including the USA “Patriot” Act, and all the rest of the ineffectual measures that the American citizen has been groped with; while Islam itself gets a free pass and victory is never brought up as an option.

When I was in the Marines, you did Sentry Duty, it was extremely dull, and time stood still. The bright spot was when the Corporal of the Guard made his rounds to see that you were properly relieved, and oh what a relief it was. To reinforce the goal of maintaining your proper post; the Officer of the Day; and the Sergeant of the Guard checked up on you. Any laxity in sentry duty was a summary court martial offense. Why is the threat of punishment necessary? Because it is human nature to wander off, to not pay attention, to get distracted by excitement, and to otherwise compromise your post.

The US Constitution, Article II, Section 2 states, “The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and the Militia of the several States, when called into actual Service of the United States;” regarding the Militia, that clause implies temporary, not permanent service. The CPoW position is straightforward. The goal of the US Military Policy is to defend the national security interests of the USA. We don’t have to pick sides in every conflict. The only side we must pick is America’s side, and regarding this nation, we must do our jobs on God’s side. God’s blessing on this Nation is by far the best “Eternal Vigilance” this country can have. “The eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry.” Psalm 34:15 CPoW recognizes that God is the Supreme Authority.

Regarding Military Preparedness; CPoW holds a Constitutional, “Real War” Policy. The Military’s job is to destroy our nation’s enemies and not to arrest them. Our enemies are processed as POW’s after they surrender; they have no guarantees while they are hostile enemies. Terrorists should be treated like Pirates, and summarily shot. No soldier should ever have to radio permission to open fire when being fired upon at any Sentry Post. We believe our Armed Forces job is Victory, to achieve that means to be a mobile, overpowering force; not a stationary target. It means to have a clearly defined mission; that can be achieved in accordance with American interests. The best “exit strategy” is a destroyed enemy.

A policy of “eternal” “security measures” only punishes the law abiding citizen, and not terrorists and criminals. True law, punishes the guilty, and therefore it can only be applied after the crime has occurred. The deterrent value is in its swiftness and severity. Most, if not all preventative laws punish everyone: the “guilty” and innocent alike, which by their very nature are incompatible with God-given inalienable Rights, and the principle of “innocent until proven guilty.” These laws can never achieve their stated purpose, to prevent future crime: because they are as unrealistic as the silly Utopians who wrote them.

It seems to me that our government wants to be liked by these people, we will never get anywhere until we do what needs to be done. The military is to be used to kill people and destroy property, they are not to be used to rebuild a country, or to institute our brand of democracy, which these people don’t want anyway. We either destroy our enemy, or we will continue to die as they get into our country and plant their bombs or even suicide bomb our cities. The truth of this is that we have been fighting against these terrorists for 250 years. Now we try to talk about moderates muslims, there is no such thing, there are just people who practice this Jihad by lying and playing nice until they think they have the power to destroy our nation.
