Ballot Access News: Virginia Board validates Libertarian petition for Governor

Ballot Access News reports:

The Virginia State Board of Elections says the petition for Cliff Hyra, Libertarian nominee for Governor, is valid. He will be the only choice on the November 2017 ballot other than the Republican and Democratic nominees. Thanks to Bill Redpath for this news.

The other statewide minor party petition that is being validated now is the Arkansas Libertarian petition for 2018. The state will have finished checking that petition in early July.

    I’ve seen wording like this before on IPR articles . . . ” . . . .only choice on the November 2017 ballot other than . . . .”

It just seems like awkward and unnecessary wording. It’s like ” . . .the only choice except for the other choices . . .”

Hyra might do fairly well if properly funded. There is a lot of discontent among tea partiers and conservatives for the GOP candidate. He has decent ideas and is a solid candidate.

I enjoy reading Sandy’s blog and his commentaries on Virginia politics. I’m hopeful that Cliff Hyra will make a bigger splash than Rob Sarvis did four years ago, especially with Establishment Ed Gillespie as the GOP nominee.

It makes some sense when the “other than” is succeeded by “the Democrat and Republican candidate.” It’s generally assumed there’s a Republican and Democrat for a position like governor, so the question (for a third party supporter) is who’s there OTHER than them.
