David Earl Williams III to run for Alderman, Chicago’s 48th ward

On August 2nd, 2018 – former 2014 Republican candidate for Illinois 9th Congressional district and former Libertarian party of Illinois Lt. Governor candidate, 8x decorated U.S. Navy Veteran, Novelist and medical logistics specialist, David Earl Williams III announced his candidacy for Alderman in Chicago’s 48th ward.

During his first campaign run for Congress in 2014, he faced allegations of ‘stalking’ an ex-girl friend in Washington D.C., which turned out to be false. He would again in 2017 face controversy while running for Lt. Governor with the Libertarian party of Illinois, as questions arose about his military service. However, it was later verified he did serve and was honorably discharged after 4 years.

According to his website, Williams campaign platform includes:

Rent Stabilization/Control for those who make under $50,000 (single/married), preserving historical landmarks, no more tax increases, Transitional tiny housing units for the homeless, end two space parking & long term taxi parking, lower Bag tax from .7 to .5 cents, ending the war on drugs and other criminal justice reforms, enforcement of police liability insurance & 30% of his Aldermanic salary ($32,400.00) towards charitable causes within the 48th ward.

Most recently during his campaign, he was approached by local businesses who tried reaching out to the current Alderman and city to get rid of 2 month old trash being placed in newspaper vending machines. However, nothing was done until Williams took it upon himself to do the city’s job by removing the trash as seen in the youtube video below.

4 days later, the city of Chicago removed the old newspaper vending machines entirely. The 48th ward covers Andersonville, Uptown & Edgewater neighborhoods. He would be facing off against the incumbent, Harry Osterman who has served the ward since 2011. The municipal election is on February 26, 2019.

OK, this is really weird. I posted a comment here saying that I have no problem with this article, as it is perfectly on topic for IPR, but I asked who this new writer, willywill3x is, and why their article is up, while the 11 news articles I have posted here are stuck in “pending” status, some of which have been stuck in “pending” status for more than one month. Out of these 11 articles, 3 are about the Green Party, one is about the Libertarian Party, the Green Party, the Constitution Party, and the Natural Law Party (it is a flashback to the 1990’s story), and the rest are about the Libertarian Party (with stories about Larry Sharpe, Tom Woods, Adam Kokesh, and more). Why are my articles stuck in “pending,” and why this long, and who took my previous post down?

Is there censorship going on here, or what? None of these articles were off topic. Why all of this behind the back type of behavior?

Geez, Andy – get a clue. You’re driving people away in droves. Stop it already.

Andy, it’s called freedom of association…. As a purported libertarian, you should favor that.

Andy, it’s called freedom of association…. As a purported libertarian, you should favor that.”

    Who is this Aiden character?

I of course know about and advocate freedom of assocation, but this still does not explain why 11 news articles I have posted, all of which are within IPR guidelines, have been stuck in “pending” status, some for more than 1 month. It also does not explain all of the behind the back stuff that has been happening. Warren Redlich owns this site, and he has said nothing. Who all are the editors here? Is Paul Frankel? Who else? Is this a case of nobody has gotten around to it, or is it censorship? Nobody has given an explanation as to why these 11 news stories have been stuck in pending. Isn’t the mission of Independent Political Report to cover and discuss stories relevant to minor political parties and independent candidates? If so, this is exactly what I am doing.

I could of course post the news stories in the Open Thread, and maybe I will do this if the situation continues, but I thought that all of these stories merited having their own article.

I have already pointed out here that the reason for my news article posting status being downgraded, which was because I posted an Austin Petersen video where he was being interviewed during his Republican primary run, and I did not immediately post a note with the video explaining why it was relevant to IPR, even though 1 minute and 43 seconds into the video, Austin’s time in the Libertarian Party was discussed, and even though Austin was the runner up for the LP’s presidential nomination in 2016. I checked the IPR archives and found that Austin Petersen’s name was in the title of 60 IPR articles, plus he had some up in many other IPR articles and comment threads on top of this, so it is not like he was unknown to IPR readers, or some kind of fringe figure who was not very well known in the world of minor party politics. I also did come back a few days later and post a note with the article, even though it should not have been necessary, and I would have done it quicker if not for the fact that I was busy working at the time. So the what I felt to be unnecessary demand to post a note explaining why the Austin Petersen interview was relevant to IPR was actually fulfilled by me, but even so, shortly after this, my article posting status was downgraded, and it was done without even bothering to tell me about it. This does not stand up to intellectual scrutiny,

This also does not explain why William Saturn’s article posting status was downgraded to the same level as mine. I don’t know William Saturn outside of IPR, but I don’t see how he did anything to merit his article posting status being downgraded, especially without warning or explanation.

What is really ironic here, is that Independent Political Report was formed as a response to the old Third Party Watch starting to censor posts that were critical of Bob Barr, or where people posted something that those supporting Bob Barr campaign did not want to be discussed. Is IPR turning into what it opposed?

I have a Libertarians for 911 Truth Yahoo discussion group (Yahoo Groups are not as popular as they used to be, but I still have it anyway), which I started back in 2007, and I have rarely censored any posts. The only time I have ever taken a post down was if somebody posted obvious spam that was completely off topic, as in posting advertisements for a porn site or a gambling site or a get rich quick scheme or something like that. I could also see taking down death threats, or people falsely posting under another person’s name, but that’s about it.

I ran a search on willywill3x, and apparently it is David Earl Williams. Welcome to Independent Political Report, Mr. Williams.

He spent a few minutes doing what any single person, city worker or not, could have done at anytime during the past 2 months. A perfect example of why relying on others is futile and how too many people are too lazy to do a simple task because “it’s not my job”.

The residents of Chicago will keep voting for the same lazy politicians but I wish Mr. Williams luck.

I recently found out that a great Libertarian activist who I knew personally died a few months ago. I had not seen this person in several years, but I did remain in contact with them periodically via email, and I had not heard from them in several months. I figured this person was probably just busy, but I was surfing the net recently and I found out that the reason I had not heard from this person in several months is because this person died. This person did enough in the Libertarian Party and movement to merit having an article here about their untimely passing. I have been meaning to post an article about this here, but one of the reasons that I have not done it is because I already have 11 stories posted here which are stuck in “pending” status, some of which have been stuck in this status for more than a month. I intend to post an article about this person’s death as an article here soon, and if it also gets stuck in pending for a ridiculously long time, or censored, that’s going to be really low and disgusting, and it will not speak well of the people running this site.

I will report back on this after I post the story of this person’s tragic death. I hope to get back to it either later today, or within the next few days.

Andy’s not driving people away. Censorship is. Apparently a large number of seemingly innocuous comments from Jim Bell were deleted recently.”

If traffic is down, something related to the censorship is the lack of new news stories being posted. There are a lot of other places for people to get news online, so if IPR is slow in reporting, or not even covering a lot of interesting stories at all, some people will go elsewhere for their news, or they won’t even find out about IRP at all.

Another thing to consider is that website traffic goes up and down in cycles. This is true for IPR, just as it is true for any other website.

I am the only person here to contribute any original journalism since October or November of last year, as I put in a lot of extra work to get interviews with several people of interest in the Libertarian Party and movement. Warren Redlich recently posted an original editorial, but that’s not the same thing as news reporting or doing an interview.

  8. Paul

I think David is my spirit animal. I enjoy watching him troll Conservatives and Progressives on social media.

  9. wolfefan

Hi Andy – have you spoken to Warren Redlich personally about your posts? What does he say? Also, why does it matter who Aiden is?

  10. Martin

Met him the other day. David would be a welcoming addition that’s needed in Chicago city Council.

  11. paulie

while the 11 news articles I have posted here are stuck in “pending” status

Because not one of our other writers/editors has bothered to approve them while I was gone. I was literally the only one who was bothering to approve your articles and that was even before Warren or whoever reduced the number of editors. Ask yourself why that is. There are lots of people who could have approved your articles but none of them did. Why do you think that is?

As for whatever comment you posted that got removed I don’t know who did that as I was not here.

  12. paulie

I’m thinking the guy posted his own press release.

Correct. He did sign up promising to post about other things too, I guess we’ll see.

  13. paulie

    Andy’s not driving people away.

Oh yes he is. Many, many people have told me online, on the phone and in person that is why they no longer participate here, including many of the people who used to post a lot of articles here. It’s one big reason I participate less than I used to myself.

Apparently a large number of seemingly innocuous comments from Jim Bell were deleted recently.

That was probably Warren, would be my guess. Jim Bell was obnoxious enough to get himself banned and threatened to sue us, etc. He tries to sneak back in every now and again. Usually when Warren catches someone doing that he checks the history and removes everything with that IP address. I’m not in favor of that myself because I don’t like past conversations appearing disjointed because comments were subsequently removed. However, I can’t tell Warren what to do. I’ve expressed my opinion on that on the email list.

  14. paulie

I have already pointed out here that the reason for my news article posting status being downgraded,

I asked you to add blurbs to multiple articles multiple times, and instead of just doing it you kept arguing with me. Article headlines also had to be repeatedly corrected because you couldn’t be bothered to do anything more than a copy/paste of a video title from youtube. The biggest complaint I keep getting about your article posting status is that you have any such status at all. Nevertheless I will approve your articles. Not all at once though.

  15. paulie

This also does not explain why William Saturn’s article posting status was downgraded to the same level as mine

Actually it was explained several times and it was not. His status was downgraded from editor to author, I am guessing because Warren and or his brother have security concern issues and downgraded a bunch of people in that same way. That means Saturn can still post articles without anyone having to approve them but can’t edit other people’s articles. Yours was downgraded from author – the status Saturn has now, unless it was changed again – to contributor, which means that you can save an article draft but an IPR editor has to approve it before it goes live.

  16. paulie

the lack of new news stories being posted. There are a lot of other places for people to get news online, so if IPR is slow in reporting, or not even covering a lot of interesting stories at all, some people will go elsewhere for their news, or they won’t even find out about IRP at all.

Yes, and the reason that a lot more stories aren’t being posted is that a lot of the people who used to post a lot more stories here have been driven away by the garbage you keep posting endlessly in just about every IPR thread. Plus as another Paul pointed out the kinds of videos and links you post on a regular basis make the site embarrassing to look at in public. They are the sorts of garbage that used to only be posted by racist trolls which we would just remove whenever we got a rash of it. Many people have asked us to the same when you post it.

  17. paulie

Another thing to consider is that website traffic goes up and down in cycles. This is true for IPR, just as it is true for any other website.

I can bump it up quite a bit any time I make an effort to do so. I have done this many times. The biggest reason I am demotivated from doing so is the crap in the comments, with Andy being by far the worst offender.

Hi to all. Thank you all for the warm welcoming as a reporter on here. For the campaign, more articles will be posted in time. I work under a strict personal guideline of keeping it relevant to third-party causes in Chicago such as the 2019 Chicago municipal election and beyond. Others are more than welcome to contact me for their stories to be published if sufficed.

  19. Fran

David has been out collecting his signatures on a daily basis to be on the February ballot. I see him everyday when I’m walking my dogs. Go get em. Chicago needs you.
