Supporters of former Libertarian candidate Ron Paul and one time possible Reform Party candidate Donald Trump clash at CPAC

Maggie Haberman at Politico (excerpts):

The real-estate mogul with a genius for self-promotion gave the most-acclaimed — and most colorful — speech at the conservative gathering this afternoon, from the moment he took the stage to the song “Money, Money, Money.”

With no visible sense of irony, he slammed libertarian Ron Paul as a losing hopeful who can’t capture the brass ring and got booed by some for it, said our current president came ‘out of nowhere,” and quoted a business magazine’s story about what a terrific entrepreneur he himself is.

IPR Exclusive: Chuck Baldwin makes his case to disgruntled libertarians

In an interview earlier today, Constitution Party presidential candidate Chuck Baldwin made his case to Libertarians unhappy with Bob Barr as their nominee.

“I understand that some libertarians do not share my conviction that life begins at conception and that we need to protect it,” said Baldwin. “I understand that some don’t share our concerns on the moral issues, but I’ll say this to all the Libertarians and independents: If you believe that a secure border is critical to our nation’s survival, then I’m the only candidate for president in 2008 you can vote for.”

Baldwin continued: “I’m also the guy that has historically stood against the Patriot Act, from the beginning.… Read more ...

Cato: Barr ‘not libertarian’ on trade

Brought to IPR’s attention by our own Trent Hill, Cato’s @ Liberty blog posted a story detailing Bob Barr’s record on trade back on May 14. “Is Bob Barr a libertarian?” the article asks. “Certainly not on trade.”

This does not appear to be a case of a libertarian’s opposition to “free trade” agreements being confused with opposition to free trade.… Read more ...
