LP.org: ‘Millennials support gay marriage … and the Second Amendment!’

Libertarian youth

From a media release by the Libertarian Party:

What do gun rights and gay marriage have in common among millennials? Surging support. A recent NPR article notes that people younger than 30 in the United States “are no more liberal on gun control” than earlier generations, “despite diverging from their elders on the legalization of marijuana, same-sex marriage and other social issues.” The article seems to view this as a puzzling anomaly — why are American youth more liberal in some areas but not in others?… Read more ...

Lauri Apple in the Chicago Reader alternative weekly:

logo_lp_illinois_blue.png The Libertarian Party of Illinois ran a full slate of candidates this year, with a guy named Lex Green at the top of the ballot. A “Green” Libertarian? Confusing! No wonder they didn’t meet the five percent threshold required to more easily get on the ballot in 2014.… Read more ...

Randy Shaw: ‘Media Falsely Brands Corporate Plutocrats as Libertarians’

Excerpts from an article by Randy Shaw in Beyond Chron:

(T)he notorious Koch Industries – run by the type of corporate plutocrats who battled FDR – are described in the October 19 New York Times not as selfish profiteers but as “longtime underwriter of libertarian causes.” Hedge fund manager Paul Singer, another large right-wing donor, is also described as “active in promoting libertarian causes.” But neither Singer, the Kochs or any other of these right-wing plutocrats are supporting any candidate that supports abortion rights, gay and lesbian rights, and the legalization of marijuana – three core libertarian principles.

Elected Libertarian leads repeal of anti-homosexual law in Missouri

From LP blog:

From Doug Burlison, Libertarian city councilmember in Springfield, Missouri:

On September 8, at my urging, our City Council (of which I am a member) repealed a local ordinance that prohibited homosexuals from “soliciting” each other. In other words, it was O.K. to put the “heterosexual moves” on a member of the opposite sex, but if you’re gay, any talk about sex could’ve invited punitive measures…until now.… Read more ...

Georgia candidate for governor admits to bestiality

In Georgia, the Creators’ Rights Party candidate for governor is creating quite a stir by admitting to the fact that he’s had sex with a mule, men, and a watermelon, among other things.  He has done these things even though he advocates a strongly anti-gay agenda.  Here is an excerpt from  the candidate, Neal Horsley, appearing on the Alan Colmes Show:

“Hey, Alan, if you want to accuse me of having sex when I was a fool, I did everything that crossed my mind that looked like I…”

AC: “You had sex with animals?”

NH: “Absolutely.

Libertarian Party of Massachusetts Resolution on Proposition 8

Emailed by George Phillies:

As passed without opposition by our state committee:

WHEREAS individuals have a natural right to associate with whomsoever they choose;

WHEREAS this right is protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution and by the sacred institution of marriage;

WHEREAS the definition of marriage continues to be made, regulated, and enforced by government;

WHEREAS all people are equal before under the law of that government, including members of the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, Polyamorous, Queer, and Leather communities;

WHEREAS reserving legal marriage exclusively for heterosexual couples makes other adult relationships unequal by denying them the same benefits of legal marriage that other families enjoy;

WHEREAS gay couples’ freedom to marry harms no-one, while declaring any kind of person unequal potentially harms everyone, because history shows that once governments abandon equality with public approval, they tend to broaden the less preferred category, so people who thought they were safe do not remain safe;

WHEREAS the courts and voters of our Commonwealth of Massachusetts have shown historical leadership in the support of Gay Marriage; and

WHEREAS we owe a solemn duty to all citizens of the United States to continue that leadership, and to refuse to remain silent in the face of intolerance and bigotry;

THEREFORE be it RESOLVED, that the Libertarian Party of Massachusetts deplores the passage in California of Proposition 8, which prohibits Gay Marriage, and urges the People of California to reinstate the right of gay couples to marry.
