Green Party of Georgia: End Torture in Prisons Now

The Green Party of Georgia has been making noise regarding the solitary confinement of 37 non-violent prison workers in 11 prisons across the state. Members of the Green Party have pledged to begin a hunger strike July 2nd if their demands have not been met.

On December 17th, 2010, in a meeting with representatives of over a dozen advocacy and community groups in Georgia, Timothy Ward, Facilities Director with the Department of Corrections acknowledged that 37 inmates had been subjected to ‘protective custody’ on suspicion of having served as instigators of the December 2010 strike, based on evidence that contraband cell phones had been confiscated from their personal property.

Update on Candidates for the Green Party Presidential Nomination

Green Party Watch held a presidential poll with the following results:

1,792 votes cast, Jill Stein received 1,223 of them, or 68%. Roseanne Barr, who had just entered the race in the last week, picked up 526 votes, or 29%. There were 35 votes for Kent Mesplay, and 8 votes for Harley Mikkelson

GPW reports that Roseanne Barr is very active on Twitter, and had tweeted a challenge to Bill Maher, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert to have both herself and Jill Stein on their programs.… Read more ...

Maurer Write In Candidate for CT State Senate Special Election

According to the Stamford Times, Rolf Maurer of the Connecticut Green Party failed to get enough signatures to appear as a balloted candidate for the Feb 22 special election to fill a vacant seat on the Connecticut State Senate. He will instead be running as a write in candidate:

Maurer, who ran for Stamford mayor in 2009 and for state representative in 2010, needed 251 voter signatures by Jan.
