Several Single-State Parties Score High Vote Totals, Minnesota IP Loses Party Status

This report outlines some strong (and not-so-strong) performances turned in by political parties that are currently active in only one state:

In Hawaii, Hawaii Independent Party candidate Mufi Hannemann won more than 11% of the vote in his race for Governor.

Ben Chipman is a community organizer in Portland, Maine, and a former Green Party state legislator. In 2010 he switched his registration to Independent and ran for re-election as such in 2012. Virginia’s Laurel Hill Connection reports former state Independent Green Party chairman Carey Campbell will run for chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. A special election is likely to take place in February; incumbent Democrat Gerry Connolly was elected to the U.S. House earlier this month.
