Nevadans Opt for Non-Partisan Status in Increasing Numbers

This article in the Las Vegas Sun cites recent voter registration statistics and points out that the number of non-partisan voters is on the rise, increasing the importance of that voting block.

“Nonpartisan” — sometimes called “independent” in other states — voters have reached their highest share since 1985, which is as far back as available voter registration data goes.

The initiator of this project is “ReTeaParty“, a project of The Political Exploration and Awareness Committee PAC (“PEAC”), a non-partisan group. PEAC’s web site states that they are “a political action committee that campaigns on behalf of issues, candidates, and potential candidates that promote honesty and Constitutional leadership.”

Election Summit and Conference held in Ohio, with assistance of Brennan Center for Justice

Common Dreams News Wire posted a press release about the “Election Summit and Conference” convened by Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner in Ohio. It’s purpose was to reflect on the 2008 election in Ohio and reforms for 2009.

The conference is a useful model for election reform in that the government brought in the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU School of Law and other non-partisan experts.… Read more ...
