posted by Staff on Apr 22, 2013

Stop CISPARepublican and Democratic politicians are once again attacking Internet freedom and Americans’ privacy rights. This time, it’s the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act (CISPA).

CISPA makes a mockery of the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, which guards against unreasonable searches and seizures and requires any warrant to be judicially sanctioned and supported by probable cause.

Darryl W. Perry: Texas to TSA: “No Warrant, No Grope!”?

From an email sent to IPR by Darryl Perry, chair of the Boston Tea Party:

Texas could become the first State to pass a bill criminalizing invasive pat-downs by agents of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). Near the end of the regular session HB 1937 passed the State House unanimously yet stalled in the State Senate after the Department of Justice (DOJ) threatened to ground all flights out of Texas.… Read more ...

Doug Craig: Promises, Patriotism and Power

Posted by Doug Craig on the Libertarian Party blog on May 24, 2011:

May 24, 2011

While on the trail, candidate Barack Obama promised that he “would revisit the PATRIOT Act to ensure that there is real and robust oversight of tools like National Security Letters, sneak-and-peek searches, and the use of the material witness provision.” As president, Obama can’t be bound [by] anything tricky like the Constitution let alone his word.

Wayne Root: Libya Makes Obama’s Final Four – Too Bad America Loses

By Wayne Allyn Root, Former Libertarian Vice Presidential Nominee and Author of “The Conscience of a Libertarian”

The Middle East is in flames, we’re now fighting wars on three fronts, Japan has suffered a catastrophe, real unemployment is twenty percent, the housing market is in free fall, and the country is drowning in debt.… Read more ...

Bob Barr: TSA’s “VIPER” program stumbles again

Bob Barr at the Barr Code:

Recent activities conducted by various law enforcement agencies under the direction of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), illustrate once again that the agency has a decidedly tin ear when it comes to concern for how its actions upset and disrupt the travelling public, or how it is perceived by the American people.… Read more ...

Darryl Perry: Repeal the (un)PATRIOT(ic) Act

Darryl W. Perry, Chair, Boston Tea Party National Committee:

It is once again the time of year that Congress votes on extending the PATRIOT Act. Once again, it is expected to pass with little or no debate or opposition.

This monstrosity was originally passed shortly after the attacks on September 11, 2001.… Read more ...

Libertarian Blue: ‘Libertarians are Right Wing?’

Libertarian Blue:

One of the advantages or disadvantages (depending on how you look at it) to being a libertarian is that liberals and conservatives accuse of us of being the other.

Daily Dish blogger Andrew Sullivan had nominated Lew Rockwell of all people for the Michelle Malkin award. Now what in anyone’s political mind who actually pays attention and not just repeats sound bites would think Lew Rockwell and Michelle Malkin are the same stripe?… Read more ...

Jesse Walker: A farewell to Bob Barr-endorsed Russ Feingold

Jesse Walker at Reason Hit and Run:

Russ Feingold wasn’t just endorsed by Bob Barr. He was the Bob Barr of the left, and I mean that mostly as a compliment. When Barr was in Congress he could be bad on “social” freedoms, especially the drug war, but he nonetheless took stances on privacy and due process that made him far above average on civil liberties as a whole.… Read more ...

Boston Tea Party national committee chair Darryl Perry: ‘The More Things Change, The More They Stay The Same’

Email from Darryl Perry, Chair, Boston Tea Party National Committee:

It’s that time again. The time that rolls around every two years; when men and women spend outrageous amounts of money telling us why they should be chosen to serve in Congress. They say outrageous things to “scare” you into believing that their opponent is either the devil-incarnate or the rebirth of Hitler, Stalin or any other number of bad “rulers” from times past.… Read more ...

A Libertarian’s Declaration of Independence from the Republican Party

The Myth of the Two-Party System by Casey Given at Students for Liberty, UC Berkeley, quoted at Poli-Tea:

Perhaps I’m just blind, but I fail to distinguish any semblance of dissimilarity between Republicans and Democrats in modern politics. On the federal level, both parties have supported foreign interventionism in Iraq and Afghanistan, massive bailouts via the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP), violations of our civil liberties via the PATRIOT Act, and secretive prisons overseas such as Guantanamo Bay.

Thomas Sipos: ‘Libertarian candidates must earn votes from libertarians’

Thomas Sipos writes at Libertarian Peacenik (excerpt):

The socialist Peace and Freedom Party candidate, Richard Castaldo, advocates the following positions on his home page:

1. Defund all wars of imperialism, including Iraq, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.

2. Single-payer not-for-profit healthcare.

3. Abolish corporate “personhood.” Rights belong to human beings, not corporations.… Read more ...
