Root: ‘Devastating Rebuke for Mainstream Media’

By Wayne Allyn Root, Former Libertarian Vice Presidential Nominee

Newt Gingrich may have won South Carolina. But this wasn’t a Newt victory, as much as it was a devastating rebuke to the national media.

Study the poll numbers. Yes, Romney really dropped the ball with the tax return and 15% capital gains issues, but the numbers started flipping from a Romney landslide to a Newt Gingrich landslide only after the ABC television interview with Newt’s ex-wife.… Read more ...

Leftist observer enjoys conservative/libertarian split at CPAC, supports strengthening Libertarian Party

Lubbock Left, a blog hosted but not edited by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal:

Social conservatives and libertarians don’t get along. Here’s a FOX News opinion piece about the recent CPAC Conference illustrating that point. (To my friends on the right: yes, I occasionally read FOX News, holding my nose the whole time.) Social conservatives can’t stand libertarians wanting a voice within the Republican Party, though they courted libertarians eagerly enough in the 2010 election cycle, mostly through the TEA Party concept.

Supporters of former Libertarian candidate Ron Paul heckle Cheney, Rumsfeld, call them war criminals at CPAC

Via John Grooms at Atlanta’s Creative Loafing:

Yesterday at CPAC, the big conservative conference in D.C., Ron Paul supporters and other libertarians in the crowd spoiled a sweet Bush-era reunion by launching a shouting match and protest action. Washington Post Columnist Calls for Centrist Third Party Movement

From Matt Miller at the Washington Post via Third Party and Independent Daily:

I’m a Clinton White House alum who had hoped President Obama could usher in the debate we need. It’s hardly all his fault that we’re not there, but I’m convinced the parties’ interest groups and “thought police” make real progress impossible without a new force that shakes things up.

FEC releases Presidential vote totals

Ballot Access News:

After every presidential election, the Federal Election Commission calculates the popular vote for president. Here is the FEC’s tally for 2008. Thanks to Tony Roza for the link.

The FEC doesn’t show any write-ins for presidential candidates unless the state elections office tabulated those write-ins. That is why no write-ins are shown for anyone in Alabama, even though the Secretary of State put up the county write-in tallies on his web page.

Nader wants to testify on Bush/Cheney impeachment

Press release from the Nader campaign

Dear Chairman Conyers:

For years I have been urging you to initiate a resolution of impeachment of George W. Bush and Dick Cheney for chronic, repeated violations of our Constitution and the many “high crimes and misdemeanors” they commit day after day. These two men are the worst recidivist impeachable occupiers of the Presidency and Vice Presidency in American history.
