Rochester, NY Special Election for Mayor: Green Party candidate receives 9%

Unofficial results show Green Party candidate Alex White finished third with 9% of the vote in the special election for Mayor of Rochester NY. White, a small business owner, ran a spirited campaign that was based on strong ideas.

From the Democrat & Chronicle:

White, 47, took pride in garnering more than 2,000 votes, saying it was about as he expected and it “gives us something to build on.” The political newcomer ran on the Green Party line.

Green Party in Rochester, NY reviewing multiple applications for mayoral candidacy

From the City Newspaper:

The Green Party of Monroe County has received “several” applications from people interested in running for Rochester mayor on the Green Party line, says party co-chair Scott Brant. Citing confidentiality and respect for the applicants, Brant would not give a specific number. He did say that he is “thoroughly impressed” by the quality of the applicants…

With little risk, I think we can assume that two of the applicants are likely former Mayor Bill Johnson and Rochester businessman Alex White.

Monroe County, NY Green Party elects officers

With the Green Party ballot-qualified statewide and the county party in the process of deciding a mayoral candidate, the Green Party of Monroe County, New York has elected new officers:

Vinessa Buckland and Scott Brant are co-chairs.

Buckland is a recent State University College at Brockport graduate and is on the board of the Genesee Valley Civil Liberties Union.

Green candidate’s petitions rejected in Rochester

Alex White, the Green candidate for mayor of Rochester, New York, will not be on the ballot this November. White submitted 1,576 petition signatures; 1,500 are needed for ballot access. After a challenge by the Monroe County Democratic Committee, 415 of White’s signatures were declared invalid. Democratic Mayor Robert Duffy will now be unopposed on the ballot.… Read more ...

Green-backed independent running for Rochester mayor

13WHAM.com of Rochester, New York, reports that Alex White, “an independent endorsed by the Green Party,” has entered the race for mayor of that city. He “vows to return to community policing and eliminate all police overtime. He says he would further reduce costs by naming fewer political appointees and by creating a public electric utility.” On Tuesday, he “filed the 173 pages of signatures necessary to get on the ballot to run for mayor.” He will “learn on Friday whether his petitions are valid or whether they will be challenged.”… Read more ...
