The Other Paper runs an article on the Modern Whig Party

The Other Paper, an alternative newspaper in Colombus, Ohio, ran an article recently on the newly formed and fast-growing Modern Whig Party. The Other Paper has a circulation of almost 300,000. The article is available here.

The article focused on the astonishing fact that the chairman of the Central Ohio chapter of the party, Kevin Bloomfield, is only a teenager, and a sophomore in high school. Regardless, says the Modern Whig Party’s national chairman, he is an effective leader and volunteer.

An excerpt of the article is below:

“He’s unique,” said Lebowitz from his Washington, D.C., office. “He’s somebody who could be the head of our party someday.”

The Modern Whig party ramped up four months ago, said Lebowitz, when returning Iraq and Afghanistan veterans wanted a different flavor to choose from other than the vanilla-thinking Republicans and the thirty-flavors-in-one Democrats. He said the party initially was reorganized as a military advocacy organization, but grew into a 10,000-strong grassroots party—of which more than half are affiliated with the military—with a general platform of fiscal responsibility, strong national defense and bold social progression.

“We’re social liberal in many ways, conservative in others. We tend to be pragmatic,” Lebowitz said. “The modern Whig party is geared towards Democrats and Republicans—we’re the swing voters.”

And all of that despite the fact that its party’s most prominent leader in Central Ohio can’t yet serve in the military or cast a vote in this year’s general election.

“So what if he can’t vote?” said Lebowitz. “Eventually, he’s going to be a voter.”

Until then, Lebowitz says Bloomfield is “front and center involved in our innovations and ideas.”

    Which part is biased?

It seems at least relevant that Bloomfield is a minor. I’m in favor of taking young persons seriously, but the world has not been for some time.
