New Indian Green party gets support from Europe

KOLKATA: Environment activist Subhas Dutta’s ambition to set up India’s first ‘Green’ party received a shot in the arm, with high-profile
European Green Party (EGP) inviting him to the party headquarters in Brussels to check out the party constitution and get a first-hand knowledge on how it functions.

Dutta had earlier been invited by Green Party leaders of England and Wales. Dutta hopes to launch his party sometime next year and contest the West Bengal polls in 2011. EGP is a transnational political party having its members Green parties from 29 European countries.

Parties can also become observers. Since 2004, individual membership of European Green Party is also possible. EGP stands for sustainable development of humanity on planet Earth.
