Thomas Knapp reports from the convention that the credentials committee’s report has passed. There are a total of 458 delegates and 3 alternates. The report was adopted without objection. This means that a quorum for any voting is 185 delegates present. A simple majority vote requires 231 delegates, a two-thirds vote requires 308 delegates.
The Treasurer’s report, submitted by Aaron Starr, is too detailed to report here–but we will be getting a copy and posting the numbers later. The report indicates that the party is doing better financially. One important note: Online donations have improved to around $250,000 per year.
Lastly, a bylaws amendment concerning electronic voting was being considered. San Francisco activist Starchild, pictured here, begged delegates to consider the measure and extend debate time. The measure, requiring a two-thirds majority, failed.
Former Congressman and presidential candidate Bob Barr is also on the convention floor, he is to speak later tonight.
Update: With a 7/8ths vote, a number of delegates were added. Total is now 500 delegates, 3 alternates.
