On June 9, the Texas Secretary of State determined that the Green Party petition this year had enough valid signatures, and the party will be on the 2010 ballot. The party is very likely to poll 5% of the vote for State Comptroller this year, because there is no Democratic nominee for that office this year. That will mean the Texas Greens will also be on in 2012.

Kinky Friedmann would make great candidate for just about anything for the Green Party of Texas…
Congratulations to the Greens.
Ah, already posted, good job.
Now will this slate hold up to state election law? Those signatures were “donated” as a gift from a corporation, and in Texas, it’s against the law to accept gifts from corporations (parties, candidates, etc.)
I realize the SOS is not the entity to enforce election laws, basically just to abide by them, but it’s going to wind up in court, just watch and see.
So now we are assured of a four way race for governor…
congrats Greens!
Not so fast though: http://www.texastribune.org/blogs/post/2010/jun/10/2010-hold-your-green/
The Democrats in Texas just sued…and a TRO was just issued to halt the Greens from certifying any of the Nov. 2 candidates:
A Travis County District Court judge granted a temporary restraining order that will prevent the Green Party from certifying any candidates for the November ballot for the next 14 days.
