Green candidate for governor, Congress in Illinois ‘to hold joint fundraiser’

Chicago, IL-The Matt Reichel for Congress campaign announced last week
that it will team up with Green Party gubernatorial candidate Rich Whitney
for a joint fundraiser Wednesday July 28th at the Celtic Crown. The event,
which starts at 7pm, will feature speeches by Green candidates and other
progressive leaders in the community. Unlike their opponents, Reichel and
Whitney stand by their refusal to accept corporate campaign contributions,
and instead rely on collective grassroots support. Their campaigns are
funded by individual contributions from workers, small business owners,
farmers, and others who are eager to see government reestablished in the
public interest. The suggested donation for the event is just $20 and
noone will be turned away because of economic hardship. Despite the
current recession, both campaigns hope to raise record sums for Green
Party campaigns. At a similar event hosted by the two candidates last
fall, attendance exceeded 100 people. With the election just months a way,
they are expecting an even greater outpour of support this time around.
