Libertarian Party of Florida Chair Candidates To Debate

From Karl Dickey, himself a former Chairman of the Libertarian Party of Florida, reports at the Examiner:

The race is heating up for Libertarian delegates to choose a new chair at the Libertarian Party of Florida’s 2011 State Convention happening the weekend of April 30th in West Palm Beach, Florida. There are currently four contenders for the position, all of which will face off during a radio broadcast and Internet show debate Friday, March 25th on the Liberty Underground Show at 9AM.

The four contenders for the position are Char-Lez Branden and Adrian Wyllie are from the west coast of Florida, John Wayne Smith is from the Leesburg area and Austin Parris is from the north Palm Beach County area.

The show can be heard in the Tampa Bay area via AM 1340 and 1350 or can be seen & heard via the Internet at http://www.1787network.com.

The debate will be moderated by 2010 Libertarian senatorial candidate Alex Snitker. Adrian Wyllie was the former Media Director on Snitker’s campaign and has already been endorsed by the former candidate.. John Wayne Smith was initially the party’s candidate for Governor in 2010, but he and his running-mate (former LPF Chairman JJ McCurry, who quit the post) were knocked off the ballot. Parris is a student at Palm Beach Community College who recently ran for State House as a Libertarian. Char-Lez Branden is the current Vice-Chairwoman of the Party.

  1. Sane LP member

I hope they put as much energy into building the party and gettin LP candidates elected as they do with an internal race for state chair.

  2. David Colborne

The fact that they’re putting this much energy into an internal race is a pretty good sign, actually. It means the Florida LP is big enough and active enough to require its candidates for internal positions to prove they have the energy and media savvy to serve as Chair before they become Chair.

If only we could all be so lucky.

    Agreed with David Colborne.

Anyone here know who all the candidates are?

John Wayne Smith announced on an email list that he would run, but I don’t know whether there has been a formal announcement or not. He seemed to have some rather negative things to say about Mr. Wyllie.

  4. Alexander Snitker

We are hoping that having an open and honest debate of the issues will attract more people into the Libertarian party. This will also garner some much needed media attention and show the people of Florida that the Libertarian party is ready to lead in 2012 and beyond.
