From Richard Winger at Ballot Access News:

The New York State Board of Elections’ web page is reporting election returns, as various precincts report their results for the special elections of May 5. Here is the link. As of 9:15 p.m., only fragmentary results are in, but they suggest that the Republican nominee is winning the U.S. House race in the 11th district, and the Working Families Party is winning the Assembly race, 43rd district.

To see the 43rd Assembly results, use the box in the upper left corner that now defaults to the U.S. House race. In the 43rd race, the “LYP” Party stands for “Love Yourself Party.”

As you know, the Green Party has ballot access in New York for the next four years. Consequently, while the Libertarian Party would have needed 3500 valid signatures in less than two weeks to get a candidate on the ballot for CD 11, the Greens only needed about a dozen!

Howie Hawkins’ fine showing last November was of tremendous value to the GP and they capitalized on it (if that can be said of a Green!) with Lane’s campaign. I hope they don’t see last night’s disappointing results as a reason not to continue to run candidates in every race next year.

At least the people in that district had that third option, even if they chose to waste their vote on one of the other two. If I lived in NY11, I’d have voted for Lane. In 43, not sure, probably the “Love Yourself” person. I do love myself, after all.

Also, a bad night for the Green Party.

Lane did very poorly in SI. No doubt, Gentile’s people told all the Democrats not to “waste” their vote on Lane.

    Most unfortunate.

While this is a win for the WFP, to be clear, Richardson is a Democrat who ran on the WFP line. The Democratic Party line didn’t have a candidate.
