I do think the Working Families Party has more independence as a party then DSA. However, the candidates eventually give up the Indy designation and merge into the Democratic Party. Only a few candidates keep their integrity and stay as third party. Again, the Progressive Party of Vermont with several seats, Marshall Burt of the LP in Wyoming, and I believe K. Sawant of the Socialist Alternative Party in Seattle. Not much else.
1. One is a party that’s existence is entirely based on votes they get
2. The other is explicitly socialist
I’ve seen a lot of political movement come out of the Working Families Party lately, especially with endorsing friendly Democrats. I would think that the DSA would have even more success. What do you think is the most significant thing separating the two organizations?
I would want DSA to at least do what Working Families Party does, but they just don’t
@EPluribus Unum. I think they should be like the Progressive Party of Vermont. Or, Marshall Burt of the Libertarian Party of Wyoming. Both have some similar values of the major 2 parties but have integrity of being, and running, separately from majority parties.
@AdamSmith
Scandinavia and Latin America beg to differ
@Johno
That’s cuz there is no “Democratic Socialist Party Line”, DSA is a political organization that works within the 2 Party system to enact their reforms
I’m curious to hear from any democratic socialists how they believe their ideology differs from other flavors of socialism and from “social democracy.” What is the role of markets in a DemSoc economy, and is a commitment to cultural liberalism and a radically progressive social agenda essential or accidental to embracing democratic socialism? I know of at least one card-carrying DSA member who is both pro-life and non-“LGBT+ affirming” as well as anticapitalist.
Even AOC, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Rashid Tlaib, etc don’t run on the Democratic Socialist Party line. They run on the Democratic Party line. So, really not independent from the major party.
Socialism is a failed ideology created by a useless bum who never worked
