Chicago columnist: ‘Ready for a third party? Bet your angry tush, we are’

In a column for the Chicago newspaper the Southtown Star, columnist Kristen McQueary writes (read the full thing here):

Are we ready for a third-party governor?

You bet your frustrated, disenfranchised, two-party system-fatigued tush, we are.

Four years ago, I good-naturedly mocked Whitney’s modest fundraiser of tortilla chips and paper plates.

But this year while waiting to interview Whitney at the Monee farm of Green Party candidate George Ochsenfeld, who is running for the Illinois House, I gratefully accepted homemade falafel from Whitney supporter John Franzese, a pony-tailed business owner from Matteson.

I admired the simple surroundings, appreciated the T-shirts and sandals, and didn’t recoil in horror when I realized Whitney’s green necktie was not adorned with an American flag pin – the measure of true patriotism, no?

I listened to conservative talk radio on the way there and Ochsenfeld’s mix of folk and Ani DiFranco on the way back.

So if you’re like me – floating through life as a political mutt who ascribes to no party, who wouldn’t dare roll through a stop sign but appreciates a little anarchy, who eats red meat and chickpeas – Whitney, 55, might be an appealing candidate.

You should take up knitting as a hobby, Mr. Milnes. Its very soothing and you can decide all by yourself when the scarf is finished.

Insufficient momentum to overcome duopoly inertia.
Whitney & ALL Green & Libertarian major office candidates will lose.
