The British Conservative statesman and literary figure Benjamin Disraeli is oft quoted saying, “There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics.” In a column titled The Progressive Mandate at Green Party Watch, writer Nate Nelson lays out statistics that he contends shows the US electorate taking what he calls a progressive turn while Obama and the Democrats turn to establishment policies the voters are rejecting.
Lies, damn lies, and statistics

I'm gonna be 51 in August. Married for 28 years. Two wonderful daughters, two wonderful grand daughters. Microbusiness owner, committed Green, and eternal optimist.

I think these recent set of surveys showing people in the US have realized the “free market” grift has meant giving away everything to the multinationals, and are taking more and more interest in populist and progressive ideas.
Now, if only there were a Left to take advantage of this new mood!
G.E., Interesting. I consider myself far and away the most qualified. On psychiatric grounds mostly. Too bad it is the judgement of the American people that is the determining factor. The same American people who elected & then reelected GWB. I rejected him as unqualified virtually immediately. The only candidate I was remotely enthusiastic about this time other than myself was Gravel. Then Kwiatkowski vp. She declined to run so Ruwart default.
You are not fit to be in charge of a remote control, Milnes. Of the 300+ million people in the U.S., you might honestly be the least qualified to serve as president.
Jerry S., So, the Green and Libertarian parties ( & Nader) fail to listen to me & lose the election resulting in political/economic chaos such that I would be advised to keep my powder dry. Personally, I’d rather win the election.
Gee, ‘every one’ is crying for funding and bleeding the [usually non rich] true believers. Ya don’t want to score a couple of bucks on a win win win situation? That’s fine! The families of Marx and Engles were the models of [tattered] purity. Be ultra pure, be ultra under funded!
Gee, I was just trying to help! Helping out Non Dems and non GOP is like herding cats! I have a good memory. Plz critize this suggestion. Write at length that you do not under stand. Lig the reason that doing Disney and Costner a favor for buttons or money is hurting them or you.
When you gripe at a later date I will throw your words back at you! And you will hate me for it! But I will be right and you and your cause will be under funded AND WRONG!
A pox on you pin headed jerks who stumble out of the desert moaning and groaning about the heat as a table full of sweating ice water glasses awaits.
Non Dem and non GOP web sites might just be the perfect place to advertise ‘Swing Vote’. This covers both in its initial theatre release and the direct to home route. The promotions staff might be more than willing to ship MONEY to ‘swing vote’ style groups to advertise. They might be persuaded that there is a community which is are ready primed in an area which many Americans are taking an on going nap.
If they do not spring for advertising money, maybe they will give minor political organizations some ‘Swing Vote’ buttons.
Sounds good to me too, however,
The “TUMOR” is controlled by the same people who control the MSM. I know most don’t believe it, but over three decades of observation and research has taught me there ARE people behind the scenes who wish to rule.

As for polls, They can be made to say anything. And ARE used by the above mentioned persons to guide policy.
We are at a critical time in our history. I strongly suggest each of you to KEEP YOUR POWDER DRY ! You may need it shortly…
Donald, I have no idea what your talking about.
Of general interest. All non Dems and non GOP should take a long long look at Disney/ Touchstone Pictures and Kevin Costner. The August 2008 premiere release of ‘Swing Vote’ should be good for at least a couple of boxes, big boxes, of ‘Swing Vote’ buttons! Months of dollars for site advertising? [First run and DVD?] Ya gotta ask [Burbank CAlifornia]!
We have a disease called inflation that redistributes wealth from poor and working class to rich.
So the left wants to counterbalance that disease with more intervention.
Why not just rip out the tumor known as the Federal Reserve and let the distribution of wealth be based on merit, rather than government fiat?
Sounds good to me.
“According to another recent Gallup poll, 68% believe that the wealth of the country should be more evenly distributed. 51% believe that “our government should . . . redistribute wealth by heavy taxes on the rich,†a clear majority for the first time since Gallup started polling on this question in 1998.”
Jesus Christ!
