Paul Mulshine writes at the NJ Voices blog that Bob Barr represents true “conservatism”, not Rush Limbaugh.
Limbaugh was perhaps the biggest Bush backer in the American media during the past eight years, a time when Bush violated every principle of conservative governance as he pushed the country ever further into the hands of big-spending big government.
Bush was so inept that he left the Democrats with total control of a bloated Washington establishment in which trillion-dollar annual deficits are considered the norm.
Don’t worry, though. Now that Bush is out of office, Limbaugh and the other radio talkers have suddenly discovered conservatism again.
Well, some people never lost it. Among them is Bob Barr.
Barr, a former congressman from Georgia, ran as the candidate of the Libertarian Party. He got 524,524 votes. A mere 69 million votes more and it would have been Barr rather than Obama taking that oath on Jan. 20.
But he was the only candidate in the race espousing the conservative principles Limbaugh pretends to espouse. I say pretends, because Limbaugh is only pretending to be a conservative. His real goal, as he himself has stated (see footnote), is to sell lots of stuff to boobs, from mattresses to baldness cures.
