Socialist Workers Party sells 275 new subscriptions to party newspaper

The Socialist Workers Party said it sold 275 new subscriptions to the party newspaper The Militant in the first week of an “international subscription campaign.” Alyson Kennedy, the party’s 2008 vice presidential nominee, said, “Many of the Mexican workers who bought subscriptions related recent run-ins with immigration cops. Several other new subscribers expressed dislike for the health care ‘reform’ bills and were attracted by the Militant headline saying ‘Guarantee Medical Care For All.'”… Read more ...

Socialist Workers ticket campaigns in Texas, Georgia

The Militant reports on the recent activities of Socialist Workers Party presidential candidate Roger Calero and vice presidential candidate Alyson Kennedy. Calero campaigned in Texas’s Rio Grande Valley October 14-15, “speaking to more than 130 students at college meetings in two Valley cities.” Meanwhile, Kennedy “talked with immigrant workers in jail awaiting deportation, poultry workers, and students on several area campuses during an October 10-14 campaign stop in Georgia.”… Read more ...

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that Socialist Workers Party vice presidential candidate Alyson Kennedy “is in Seattle this week talking to striking Boeing workers and campaigning in a long-shot race for the White House.” Kennedy told the newspaper, “We’re fighting to win this election. Socialist Workers Party ticket on ballot in 10 states

In its newspaper The Militant, the Socialist Workers Party says it has “succeeded in putting the presidential ticket of Roger Calero and his running mate Alyson Kennedy on the ballot in 10 states” with its recent certification in New York and Vermont. The article is not entirely accurate, however, since in some states a substitute presidential candidate has been listed due to Calero’s constitutional ineligibility to serve as president.… Read more ...

Socialist Workers Party on Louisiana ballot

Louisiana’s Baton Rouge Advocate reported Tuesday that the Socialist Workers Party “became the first party Monday to get a presidential candidate on Louisiana’s Nov. 4 ballot. Alyson Kennedy of New Jersey, the running mate to presidential candidate Roger Calero of New York, personally qualified her party and its nine state electors in Baton Rouge, after touring New Orleans for three days.”… Read more ...

In New York, supporters “celebrated July 27 after collecting 29,480 signatures — nearly double the requirement — to place Roger Calero, SWP candidate for U.S. president, and his running mate Alyson Kennedy on the New York state ballot.… Read more ...

Socialist Workers ticket on Delaware ballot

The current issue of The Militant reports that “for the first time in more than 30 years, the Socialist Workers Party presidential ticket will appear on the ballot” in Delaware. On June 30, “supporters filed papers to place the slate of Roger Calero for president and Alyson Kennedy for vice president on the ballot.… Read more ...

SWP VP nom in Seattle at close of petition drive

Alyson Kennedy, the vice-presidential nominee of the Socialist Workers Party, was in Washington this past week campaigning with local longshoremen and overseeing the completion of the SWP’s petition efforts in that state. According to an article in the SWP’s newsletter The Militant, this was something of a return visit for Kennedy:

John Fischer, a retired longshore worker, gave Kennedy a hug, saying, “I’m really glad to see you again.”

Alyson Kennedy meets with Iowa immigrants

Alyson Kennedy, the Socialist Workers candidate for Vice President recently met with immigrants in Postville, Iowa, the site of a recent ICE raid that arrested 389 abattoir workers (about 17% of the town’s population). The current issue of the SWP’s The Militant says:

Outside St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Kennedy talked to an Agriprocessors worker who had been detained and later released by the government.
