In two-way race, Green beating Communist in Ohio

In a rare two-way race between two members of a third party, a member of the Green Party is beating out a member of the Communist Party for a seat on the Cleveland City Council.  Both are also members of the Democratic Party, and Congressman Dennis Kucinich endorsed the Communist.  With 17% of precincts reporting, the Green is winning by 20%. … Read more ...

Connecticut newspaper profiles state’s alternative parties

Connecticut’s Greenwich Time has a Sunday feature on alternative parties in the state. The article says “only 0.2 percent of all registered voters are enrolled in ‘other’ parties, compared with the 44 percent who are unaffiliated with any party. The Democrats have 33.7 percent of the total registered voters in the state, and the Republicans 22 percent.”… Read more ...

Communist Party USA ends print edition of People’s Weekly World

Ballot Access News reports that the Communist Party USA “will no longer produce a paper edition of its weekly newspaper, the People’s Weekly World. The paper will be an internet publication.” The article goes on to observe that few national political parties in the U.S. still publish print newsletters or newspapers, with the Libertarian Party’s LP News and the Socialist Workers Party’s The Militant among the few exceptions.… Read more ...

Communists: Don’t ‘politicize, disrupt or boycott the Beijing Olympics’

The Communist Party USA has issued a statement concerning the fast approaching 2008 Summer Olympics to be held in Beijing, China. In reference to outcry from some quarters concerning China’s human rights record, often specifically focused on Tibet, the CPUSA has echoed the line of IOC President Jacques Rogge for preserving the Olympics’ tradition of political neutrality:

It is no secret that there are many who would like to do whatever is possible to undermine China’s status as a peacefully rising power.

Communist Party editorial addresses election 2008

The Communist Party USA has published an editorial today outlining its perspective on this year’s presidential election. Much like 2004’s position paper (published in clarification of a forgery distributed by opponents of John Kerry), Eye on the Prize stresses removing the “ultra-right” from power, and lavishes praise on the nature of the Obama campaign if not its candidate:

Barack Obama is not a left candidate.
