MI-1: Independent Glenn Wilson polling 8% in tight race

A Detroit Free Press poll has independent conservative Glenn Wilson at 8% in a race with a virtual dead heat between the Republican and Democratic candidates:

Detroit Free Press poll:

Dan Benishek (R) – 42%
Gary McDowell (D) – 40%
Glenn Wilson (IND) – 8%
Undecided – 10%

Glenn Wilson Loses Campaign Manager

Glenn Wilson, a conservative candidate mounting a third-party bid for Bart Stupak’s seat in Congress from the 1st District of Michigan, has lost his campaign manager.

Rich Carlson resigned from the campaign and is accusing Wilson of violating a promise he made to drop out of the race if the polls showed he had little chance of winning so he would not split the conservative vote with Republican candidate Dan Benishek.

Glenn Wilson: The $2 Million Man

Glenn Wilson, an independent candidate and Rose City business owner who filed to run in the 1st Congressional district, pledged to spend $2 million in an attempt to shatter two-party politics.

“I’m looking forward to sending the message from Northern Michigan voters to the entrenched power in Washington that principle is more important than party loyalties,” Wilson said in a statement announcing his active campaign.
