2010 LP Candidate: Gingrich Made His Own Bed

A response by William J. Malan to a news report about the failure of Newt Gingrich (and Rick Perry) to make the Virginia ballot:

As someone who ran as a Libertarian for Attorney General in Illinois in 2010, I am ROTFLMAO at Newt’s latest SNAFU.

In 2010, the LP of Illinois gathered about 30,000 signatures to make sure we had 15,000 valid ones.

Illinois U.S. Senate Poll Includes Four Parties

Ballot Access News:

A Chicago Tribune/WGN-TV poll released September 2 shows these results for the U.S. Senate race in Illinois: Democrat Alexi Giannoullas 34%, Republican Mark Kirk 34%, Green Party nominee LeAlan Jones 6%, Libertarian Party nominee Mike Labno 3%, undecided 23%.

The previous best showing for U.S. Senate for the Illinois Green Party was in 2008, when Kathleen Cummings polled 2.24%.… Read more ...

Illinois: At Least Seven Libertarian Candidates on Ballot

Illinois Senate Democratic campaign declares Libertarian Mike Labno a threat to Republican

Illinois Treasurer and US Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias’s campaign posted a press release titled Anti-Establishment Wave Should Have Washington Insider Kirk Afraid, Very Afraid” on wednesday. The release warns Republican Congressman Mark Kirk that he faces a “legitimate challenge from the right with Libertarian candidate Mike Labno officially on the Illinois ballot.”

As with Republican Senator Bob Bennett of Utah, the anti-incumbent wave  is on the brink of taking its next victim this morning as incumbent Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska faces the more than likely loss to a conservative challenger from the right.

Illinois Libertarian Party Statewide Slate Survives Challenge

Ballot Access News:

The Libertarian Party statewide slate of candidates in Illinois submitted approximately 45,000 signatures at the end of June, but the petition was challenged. The “binder check” process is now complete and the party seems to have 33,545 valid signatures, well above the legal requirement of 25,000.
