New York Daily News Says Thomas Golisano is a Major Backer of the National Popular Vote Plan

According to this story in the New York Daily News, Thomas Golisano is one of the major financial backers of the movement to pass the National Popular Vote Plan bills. Court May Compell Independence Party of New York Leadership To Testify

Richard Winger at Ballot Access News reports that the Independence Party of New York’s leadership may be compelled to testify about a $1,000,000 donation given to the party in 2009. The Independence Party is involved in a criminal probe of New York City Mayor Bloomberg’s political contributions.

Democratic Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, the state’s top prosecutor, is running for governor on the Independence Party line.

New Registration Numbers from New York and Nevada

The latest registration data is in from both New York and Nevada. For both states I used the “Total” number of registered voters, rather than the “Active” or “Inactive” voters. I’d be very happt if someone converted the numbers into percentages, but I’m going to list raw numbers.

New York: The first number is the number of registered voters in the party in November 1st, 2009, the second number is the newer registration numbers from April 1st, 2010.… Read more ...

New York Independence Party Legislator Wants to Repeal Salt Water Fishing License

Fred Thiele is one of two members of the New York Assembly (the Lower house) who is a member of the Independence Party of New York. Assemblyman Thiele has introduced a bill to repeal the State Salt Water Fishing License Law.

Thiele stated, “While questions of fact remain concerning the type of fish which are subject to the state law, the specific town fishing regulations, and the exact boundaries or waterways over which the Towns claim jurisdiction, it is clear in his ruling against the State that Justice Sweeney accepts the premise that the Towns have jurisdiction over their waterways and that the State went far beyond the federal Magnuson-Stevens Act.
