Illinois special election will have six candidates on the ballot; objector to three petitions withdraws her challenges

The following bit is from Ballot Access News

On February 28, the Illinois voter who had challenged three minor party or independent candidates’ petitions (in the special election to fill the U.S. House vacancy in the 2nd district), withdrew her challenges. Therefore the April ballot will include the nominees of the Democratic, Republican, and Green Parties, along with three independent candidates.

Three Third Party Candidates Running In Special Congressional Election in Illinois

On February 26th, the Democratic and Republican primaries for the special congressional election to replaced disgraced former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. were held. Robin Kelly won the Democratic primary with 51% of the vote, while Republican Paul McKinley held a 23 vote lead in a race still uncalled. Free & Equal condemns non-inclusive Chicago mayoral debate

The Free and Equal Elections Foundation issued a statement today condemning WLS ABC Channel 7’s decision to hold a non-inclusive Chicago mayoral debate on February 17, 2011. WLS included only selected candidates, intentionally excluding other legally qualified candidates.

“WLS ABC Channel 7 should follow the example set by WFLD Fox Channel 32, which during the gubernatorial race hosted a truly inclusive debate, including all six candidates,” said Christina Tobin, Founder and Chair of the Free and Equal Elections Foundation.… Read more ...
