Independence Party of Minnesota holds balance of power in close race for Governor

According to the New York Times election results board, with 100% of precincts reporting, only 0.5% separates the Democratic and Republican candidates. Additional votes which may be counted, such as provisional ballots, make this race too close to call.

Tom Horner of the Independence Party got 11.9% in this race, with several other candidates in the race:

SUSA: Tom Horner At 18%, Other At 5% In MN Gubernatorial Race

The latest polling from SurveyUSA shows a tightening race for Governor of Minnesota. From the pollster:

Today, Dayton gets 38%, Emmer 36%; Dayton’s nominal 2-point advantage may or may not be statistically significant. But: Independence Party candidate Tom Horner today gets 18% of the vote, stronger yet among older, more reliable voters, complicating the calculus either major-party campaign needs to capture the open seat.

MN Guv: Profile of Minor Party Contenders

Minnesota Politics provides a good profile of the less well-known contenders in the Minnesota gubernatorial race.

Gubernatorial candidate Linda Eno is running under the Resource Party , which focuses on the issues of sexual orientation and tribal nations.

Former Green Party activist Ken Pentel is running under the Ecology Democracy Party , which he created while riding his bike some 6,000 miles across the state.
