County party ignores local choice; Cohen out

In a move the chairwoman of its local [East Hampton] chapter, Elaine Jones, characterized as a “back room deal,” Zachary Cohen has been replaced by Bill Wilkinson [registered Republican] as the Independence Party candidate for East Hampton Town Supervisor.
That’s the increase in votes cast for non-major party candidates in this year’s New York gubernatorial election, compared with 2006. Nearly 200,000 people supported a candidate other than the Republican or Democratic nominees…
