Barry Goldwater Jr. Addresses 2016 Speculation

Former Congressman Barry Goldwater Jr., son of 1964 Republican presidential nominee Barry Goldwater, informed me via Facebook that there is “no truth” to the speculation that he will seek the Constitution Party’s 2016 presidential nomination.

Mississippi’s Starkville Daily News reports this morning on ex-Rep. Barry Goldwater Jr.’s visit to “the state where his late father garnered 87 percent of the popular vote in the 1964 presidential election” Thursday. Louisiana’s Alexandria Town Talk reports that when that state’s voters “go to the polls to chose a president on Nov. 4, they will find a name on the ballot many might not expect — Ron Paul. Reason interviews Louisiana Taxpayers Party founder

Trent Hill, founder of the Louisiana Taxpayers Party and IPR correspondent, was recently interviewed by Reason Magazine’s David Weigel concerning the origins of the Ron Paul draft effort, a discussion of the controversial Louisiana Republican caucuses, and the disposition of their vice presidential candidate, Barry Goldwater, Jr.:

At the onset of this effort, we were fairly confident that Ron Paul would not sue to have his name removed from the ballot–we were far more concerned about the VP choice, and wether he or she might remove their name.

Paul-Goldwater vehicle launches Web site

The Lousiana Taxpayers Party, which nominated Ron Paul for president and Barry Goldwater, Jr. for vice president, launched its Web site late September, 10.

Ballot access woes for Barr

Richard Winger has reported over at Ballot Access News that Bob Barr is having some trouble filing in Louisiana. Due to Hurricane Gustauve and the resulting power outages and flooding, the Secretary of State’s office in Baton Rouge was closed until September 6th.

However, on September 9, the Secretary of State indicated he would not accept late filings.

We here at IPR were the first ones to scoop the news that a group in Louisiana, going under the name “Louisiana Taxpayers Party”, was going to put Ron Paul/Barry Goldwater Jr. on the ballot for President/Vice President. Although it is technically unofficial, the Louisiana Taxpayer’s Party submitted their paperwork on the same date as the Republican presidential ticket.… Read more ...
