Grassroots citizen activism and the No Nukes movement have won another great victory with Entergy’s announcement that the Vermont Yankee reactor will shut down.
It is closing only because of the fierce non-violent determination of countless activists over the decade who value life and understand the horrible destructive power of atomic energy, as is now being demonstrated so destructively at Fukushima.
As the horror show at Fukushima worsens by the day, our opposition to atomic energy becomes ever more vital. Now more than ever, we advocate a total “solartopian” shift to renewables for our planet’s energy supply.
That transition has become even more essential as the nightmare at Fukushima deepens.

Director of Nuclear Energy Information Service Chicago Dave Kraft says residents and lawmakers should be concerned because Illinois has four reactors the same type and vintage as the ones in Japan’s Fukushima nuclear disaster.
While the attention of the world shifts elsewhere, the unfolding crisis in Japan just keeps getting horribly worse — including the plight of people displaced, sickened, and threatened by the quakes, tsunami, and spreading radiation.

The Union of Concerned Scientists released a damning report on the nuclear power plant operated in Darlington, SC by Progress Energy, known as HB Robinson. The same company operates the Southport plant near Wilmington, NC.
