New California Registration Data: All Political Parties Except Democrats Increase Their Share

On October 29, the California Secretary of State released new registration data, as of October 18.  This was the first data since the September 3 tally.

The percentages for each qualified party, and for the Reform Party as well, are below.

Third Party Landscape: Party Registration Figures for California

New California Registration Data

On February 5, the California Secretary of State released new registration data, as of January 5, 2010.

The new figures are: Democratic 44.623%, Republican 30.752%, American Independent 2.261%, Green .659%, Libertarian .499%, Peace & Freedom .326%, Reform .140%, independent and miscellaneous 20.740%.

The last figures released were from May 2009.

California Special Congressional Election Returns

November 3rd, 2009

Preliminary election returns for the special U.S. House election in California’s 10th district are:
Democrat John Garamendi 55.54%; Republican Dave Harmer 39.77%; Green Jeremy Cloward 1.99%; Peace & Freedom Mary McIlroy 1.48%; American Independent Party Jerry Denham 1.23%.

When this district last voted, in November 2008, the results had been: Democratic 65.20%; Republican 31.10%; Peace & Freedom 3.70%.

The Peace & Freedom Party describes itself as “California’s feminist socialist political party.” They nominated Ralph Nader for President in the 2008 elections.

California Releases New Registration Data

On May 15, California Secretary of State Debra Bowen released updated voter registration data for the special statewide election of May 19. Compared to the last registration tally of March 20, these parties gained a slightly larger share of the registration: Democratic, American Independent, Libertarian, and Reform.

New political party forming in Minnesota

According to a participant’s account, a new party is being formed this week: the “Open Progressive Party of Minnesota” An e-mail by eye witness and former 2008 Senate candidate (from a different third party) Michael Cavlan describes the new party.

Michael Cavlan writes:

April 28th, 2009 at the OK Corral Restaurant in Jordan, Minnesota a new political party was born.
