The Libertarian Party National Convention officially starts Friday May 27th. The night before, following tradition, there is an unofficial Presidential and Vice Presidential debate. There are no CSPAN cameras at this debate and it, sometimes unfortunately, gets much more heated.

Social conservatives and libertarians don’t get along. Here’s a FOX News opinion piece about the recent CPAC Conference illustrating that point. (To my friends on the right: yes, I occasionally read FOX News, holding my nose the whole time.) Social conservatives can’t stand libertarians wanting a voice within the Republican Party, though they courted libertarians eagerly enough in the 2010 election cycle, mostly through the TEA Party concept.
(Orlando) Tea Party congressional nominee Peg Dunmire (TEA-Orlando) won a straw ballot conducted at the statewide Florida Liberty Summit being held in Orlando this weekend.
Dunmire won the vote with 24% of the votes cast.

ORLANDO – In a shocking upset, grassroots U.S. Senate candidate Alexander Snitker defeated GOP frontrunner Marco Rubio in a straw poll held at the Florida Liberty Summit hosted by Campaign for Liberty at the Rosen Center in Orlando, Florida this weekend.
Snitker said of his surprise win, “I think this shows that Americans are starting to shy away from the two-party political class, and are instead looking for candidates that will uphold the Constitution and defend their personal and economic freedoms.”
