Ballot Access News: Minor Parties Have a Lot Riding on Their Percentage of the Vote on November 4

One of the reasons the November 4 election is suspenseful is because there are so many states in which it is difficult to predict whether various minor parties will poll enough votes to obtain, or keep, recognized party status.

Alabama: although no minor party candidate has any candidates on the ballot for statewide office, parties can also obtain recognized party status, for county office only, if they poll 20% of the vote for a countywide county office.… Read more ...

According to HowardPhillips.com, Howard Phillips retired on January 11 as chairman of the Conservative Caucus, which he founded in 1974.

Howard Phillips, founder of The Conservative Caucus (TCC) and its Chairman since 1974, has resigned, saying that recent health problems required that he “direct my energies on my health, my family life, my spiritual priorities, and my writings.”

Michigan Supreme Court Won’t Hear Appeal from The Tea Party that Tried to Get on Ballot

Ballot Access News reports that “on September 3, the Michigan Supreme Court voted 5-2 not to hear the appeal of the group that tried to get on the ballot as “The Tea Party”. The State Court of Appeals had earlier kept that party off the ballot because most of its paperwork said the name of the party is “The Tea Party”, but the petitions say the party is “Tea Party.””… Read more ...

Michigan Poll Registers Support for Third Parties

A poll conducted in Michigan registered support for the Green Party and Libertarian Party in that state at 3% and 8%, respectively. The U.S. Taxpayer’s Party of Michigan, the Constitution Party’s affiliate in the state, was not included in the poll.
