Libertarians Against Landham petition

We the undersigned believe that Sonny Landham should not be endorsed, approved, or supported by the Libertarian Party of Kentucky as a candidate for Senate or any other office.

Mr. Landham has proven from his comments that he is not a libertarian, and many of his recent statements and positions have been both ideologically incorrect and socially repugnant. Libertarians do not support genocidal war, war based on economic motives, or race-based immigration restrictions, to mention just a few of Mr. Landham’s very un-libertarian positions. Nor do Libertarians (or any freedom-minded individuals, we would hope) support the sort of reckless racial stereotyping and denigration of whole nationalities that has been the underpinning of Mr. Landham’s most widely-reported remarks.

Therefore, we the undersigned assert that the Libertarian Party of Kentucky needs to take immediate action to:
–rescind their endorsement of Sonny Landham’s candidacy; and
–remove his name from any petitions or ballot-access efforts that may be underway; and
–publicly, officially, and in the firmest terms possible, disavow the racist and un-libertarian statements Mr. Landham has been making under the “Libertarian” banner; and
–initiate a public relations campaign sufficient to repair the damage that’s been done to the party’s image in Kentucky, especially among minority populations.

What’s so fascinating? This is Dondero’s rhetoric exactly.

It is fascinating over at TPW watching Dondero act as apologist for this guy. He really thinks that this guy is a great candidate for the LP.

Or he really thinks this guy is an awful candidate and will further Dondero’s ambition to destroy the LP.

    Houillion,

If I had confidence you were going to “handle yours on your own” I wouldn’t have started a petition. The LPKY doesn’t operate in a vacuum. AP stories go out to outlets all over the world.

I think he’s just a little testy because no one intervened when he felt it was necessary. But I think this is a little more serious than that event.

Houillion: To have a racist, anti-property-rights person running under the LP banner hurts all Libertarians.

If you’re a Libertarian, then why would you expect others to fight your battles for you? Why wouldn’t self-reliance be among your primary principles? Why wouldn’t you say “We can handle our own problems ourselves in KY”?

And if so, then surely you can handle separating a racist anti-property-rights person and the good name of the Libertarian Party?

I’m new to the LP, so I don’t have knowledge of what you’re angry about, but come on. Why would you be content with a racist/fascist representing our party, and especially at such a high level?

    Landham is a national embarrassment.

  7. Houillion July 28, 2008

In 2007, when the LNC Regional Rep Bob Barr left his own state and Region and came into Kentucky and started campaigning for Neo-Con Republican Governor Ernie Fletcher, a candidate the LPKY was against, no one spoke up or wrote on blogs to offer support though a request for aid was sent out. In previous years requests for aid and money to help petitioning were sent out, they were ignored. Now, all of the sudden, everyone wants to be involved in Kentucky’s LP. I’ve got a little message for you now:

Mind your own damn business! We’ll handle ours on our own just like we have been doing for a long time.

    Thanks.

And, I was already Finnish a long time ago.

  9. donald raymond lake July 28, 2008

Hey Paulie, in a short while, will you be ‘Finnish’ ??

Sorry, sorry, slow news day. As a Non Lib, I sincerely regret the ‘problems’ you are having with this loose cannon. May be no publicity is better than bad publicity!

…and thanks to paulie for posting this BTW. 🙂

I’ve been mulling over a Barr petition, but it wouldn’t be to get him removed, it would be to ask him to be more libertarian. The situation with Barr is a lot more nuanced, IMO. Landham’s is pretty clear cut.

FWIW, I’m not really dialed into the whole libertarian discussion list network these days, so I’d appreciate any help in getting the word out. (Especially, obviously, among Kentucky Libertarians.)

I aim to bring this to the attention of the LPKY early Monday afternoon, in anticipation of their possible conference call Monday night. Hopefully there will be at least enough signatories to get the point across by then, or by Tuesday if they end up meeting then instead.

You can’t add Barr to Lance’s petition (except in the comments, but they would not be going to the people you intend them to). You can start your own petition about Barr.

You can ask Sean whatever questions you want until they hang up on you :-p

  13. Arthur Torrey July 27, 2008

    Two questions…
    1. Can we add Barr?
    2. Can we ask questions about Sean’s “burning” problem?

    Yes, for Haugh.

Hear the entire interview with Ken Molleman on tonight’s edition of “The Weekly Filibuster” at http://www.weeklyfilibuster.com

And on tomorrow’s show we’ll be exclusively talking with LP National Political Director Sean Haugh about the Landham controversy, and the LP’s slow response. He’ll be taking calls live.

Actually I’m not in too much of a hurry. I’m just Russian.

It’s actually more of a nickname than a last name.

My real last name is not for publication due to death threats, etc.

  18. Mike Theodore July 27, 2008

Paulie must be in a hurry. Forgot his last name.
    “paulie”
