In a post on the New York Observer website, Steve Kornacki says a “clueless” Newt Gingrich adopted “kooky logic” in arguing that if Sen. Joseph Lieberman becomes John McCain’s running mate, Libertarian Bob Barr could get 15% of the national popular vote.
Kornacki writes, “Barr is struggling to attract money, press attention, and on-line interest and is on course to finish with about one percent of the vote (if that). The notion that he might reach 15 percent (or even 5 percent) is a stretch to start with. But more preposterous is Gingrich’s apparent view that social conservatives enraged by the presence of a pro-choice vice-presidential nominee on a G.O.P. ticket led by a pro-lifer would flock en masse to the Libertarian Party. … Something tells me that Joe Lieberman’s addition to the G.O.P. ticket would not prompt 20 million conservative voters to flock to a pro-drug, pro-gay marriage candidate whose party’s platform calls for legal abortion.”
Haha.. If Obama chooses Kerry, it will be another instance of the Democrats trying REALLY hard to lose and succeeding in the near-impossible.
I don’t know. I think Bob Barr is doing a decent job trying to establish himself as a choice for prolife homophobic conservatives also.
There are also rumors that Obama might choose John Kerry. Obama/Kerry v. McCain/Lieberman. What a matchup of losers.
In most of the Union, Republican conservatives who disliked Lieberman would should it matter have the option for voting for Baldwin (or, in California, perhaps Keyes, where litigation may yet advance). For prolife homophobic conservatives, Baldwin is as credible, and has adequate means thanks to the internet of reaching most of the ones who are motivated to switch. Mind you, I doubt that it is likely that Lieberman is going to get the option of becoming the first man in recent history to be defeated for VP, twice, with two different major parties.
Republicans and pro-lifers know how to stand in line and behave. They will vote for McCain regardless because they’d rather have him nominating judges than Obama.
Who was it that predicted that McCain will pick a running mate that would finally put a bullet in his chances? My friend was just babbling about it.

But Barr is certainly neither “pro-drug” nor “pro-gay marriage,” and regardless what the platform says, Barr is pro-life.
