The Washington Post reports that veteran District of Columbia Councilmember Carol Schwartz, the city’s highest-ranking elected Republican and a four-time candidate for mayor, has decided to seek re-election as a write-in candidate after losing last week’s GOP primary to newcomer Patrick Mara. Mara, who had solid backing from the business community, received 2,234 votes (59.8%) to Schwartz’s 1,483 (39.7%).
