According to Ralph Nader’s campaign blog
We’re just $25,000 from reaching the $3 million mark.
Three million dollars for the year!
That might be peanuts to McCain and Obama.
But it’s real nutrition for Nader/Gonzalez.
And it’s literally three times what any other third party or independent campaign has raised so far this year.

Oh, well that’s good to hear however at opensecrets they claim that Nader is getting around 1,000,000 from “other” sources, I thought they ment FEC funds by that. If they aren’t FEC funds then what are they?
Oh, okay that’s good to hear. However at:
http://www.opensecrets.org/pres08/summary.php?cycle=2008&cid=N00000086
It says, 1,000,000 is coming from “other” sources so I wasn’t sure if that was FEC funds or what.
“I thought Nader raised 4.6 million in 2004 so, sadly he is likely to raise less this election cycle. ”
Nader isn’t counting federal matching funds (he’s gotten $411,000 or possibly coming) or self-donations (he’s given around $40,000).
If you count both of those, he’s already raised far more than 3 million. His 2004 numbers included these additions.
Fundraising has gone up quite a bit in the last few days since the bailout was announced, so I think he’s got a good shot at matching 2004 fundraising numbers.
… of course Nader has a “fan base” of donors to tap into from his past two presidential runs, which is also a distinct advantage.
Barr’s congressional fundraising list is probably rather useless, full of Republicans who see him as a “traitor” trying to “spoil” the election by “helping” Obama.
Of course, pissing off the Paulites doesn’t help fundraising, but might not hurt either seeing as they seem pretty tapped out at this point — witness the lame moneybombs for the RP-endorsed congressional candidates and Chuck Baldwin.
Anyway…
“That’s nothing. Barr is going to raise $40 million.”
Yep, then he’s going to get into the debates. With that exposure, he’ll carry the “gold states”.
svf – Barr will have raised less than Badnarik by the end of the election unless he picks up the pace. But by every measure, his pace has slowed.
I thought Nader raised 4.6 million in 2004 so, sadly he is likely to raise less this election cycle. Perhaps fewer donations from Republicans who want to tip the race in their favor? Regardless, in terms of funds Nader has been far more effective in utilizing what he does have.
Bob Barr has raised less, adjusted for inflation, than Michael Badnarik….
… so far. There, now it’s a fact.
Ralph Nader has raised 3 times as much as Bob Barr.
Bob Barr has raised less, adjusted for inflation, than Michael Badnarik.
Just some facts for the 49.7% of delegates who voted for Barr.
HAHAHA.
No but seriously–3 million is great for a third-party contender.
That’s nothing. Barr is going to raise $40 million.
