Titus says Obama eligibility issue up to electors

Herb Titus, the 1996 Constitution Party vice presidential nominee, tells WorldNetDaily that “it is up the electors from the 50 states to make certain President-elect Barack Obama is a natural-born U.S. citizen before they cast votes for him in the Electoral College Dec. 15.” Titus said, “If they do their duty, they would make sure that if they cast a vote for Mr. Obama, that Mr. Obama is a natural-born citizen. I think it should be resolved. The duty is in the Electoral College. Every Obama elector that is committed to casting a vote on the 15th of December, they have a constitutional duty to make certain whether Mr. Obama is a natural-born citizen.”

I am not easily inclined to believe conspiracy theories, but the issue with Obama’s citizenship is not totally implausible as most conspiracy theories are. It is not a bizarre or far-fetched allegation nor does it require layers of complicity. It is perfectly reasonable for Titus or anyone else to have questions.

“State law prohibits the release of a birth certificate except to a person seeking his or her own certificate and the person’s spouse, parent and legal guardian.”

Key word in there is “except.” Obama should just request the certificate and shut everyone up.

“Ok Trent, Titus is not stupid: he’s a liar and a conman then, playing games with those easily duped.”

I dont know the man, lol, so Im not going to comment. But he ISNT stupid.

They’re wasting their time bothering with his birth certificate, the more interesting question is whether he accepted Indonesian citizenship. Would he be amnestied by that court ruling that legalized dual-citizenship?

Ok Trent, Titus is not stupid: he’s a liar and a conman then, playing games with those easily duped.

State Health Department employees continue to be barraged by requests from people demanding to see Barack Obama’s birth certificate, including some who have called the department’s registrar of vital statistics at home — in the middle of the night.

“This has gotten ridiculous,” state health director Dr. Chiyome Fukino said yesterday. “There are plenty of other, important things to focus on, like the economy, taxes, energy.”

So, in what likely will be a vain attempt to halt the inquiries, Fukino yesterday issued a statement saying that she and the registrar of vital statistics personally inspected Obama’s birth certificate and found it to be valid.

Will this be enough to quiet the doubters?

“I hope so,” Fukino said. “We need to get some work done.”

The state health director said yesterday she has personally seen and verified Sen. Barack Obama’s original birth certificate in an effort to address numerous requests for the document.

    [. . .]

State law prohibits the release of a birth certificate except to a person seeking his or her own certificate and the person’s spouse, parent and legal guardian.

But health officials have been receiving numerous e-mail and phone requests for the document, according to Janice Okubo, Heath Department spokeswoman.

Health Director Chiyome Fukino said she and the vital statistics registrar viewed and verified Obama’s birth certificate.

“No state official, including Gov. Linda Lingle, has ever instructed that this vital record be handled in a manner different from any other vital record in the possession of the State of Hawaii,” Fukino said.

How the “natural born” qualification is supposed to be enforced is an interesting question. I don’t think the Founder’s really anticipated a case where the citizenship issue would be cryptic. Everyone knows Arnold Schwarzenegger, for example, can’t run so he would be foolish to try. But the alleged issue with Obama is not so clear cut. Electors? The Courts? State SoS? Who knows?

BTW, I don’t think Titus is a member of the CP anymore.

  6. Trent Hill November 25, 2008

Herb Titus was probably the most qualified VP candidate the CP has ever had. And while you could call the CP the party of stupid on a host of issues–it would be unwise to call Titus stupid, he’s a harvard graduate, Cum Laude I believe.
