Having McKinney come in dead last of the four main third party candidates here in MN and across the country gave me something to smile over. She’s a total flake and just all around sucks. If the Greens even survive until 2012, they are going to have to run serious candidates and not embarrassments.
There needs to be a party for Fringe Conspiracy Theorists who don’t want a theocracy. It would have seemed that the Libertarian Party was the place, but I guess they are rejecting it. So it’s the Green Party then. I hope they continue in this situation, uniting libertarian and socialist fringe leaders. The Naderites should probably go with Gonzales, and if he comes to support 9/11 truth, he can get the green nomination and leave the Naderites noone better to vote for. Or, Robert Milnes and LaineRBT can combine with me (the leader of the Catholic Trotskyist Party) to initiate the Fringe Alliance Strategy.

Nader is destroying the Green Party.
Nobody in the Green Party in Ohio was notified? I guess none of them read Ballot Access News, Third Party Watch, or IPR. Their loss I guess.

I am even starting to be more gun rights than most indie leftists so the Greens aren’t that great of an option for me. Really, I just want to live in a cabin in the wilderness and be left the fuck alone.

Back to McKinney I would say she really screwed the Greens over by type casting them as even more fringe, leftists than they already are. Shitting over Nader’s name won’t help to bring Nader supporters back to the Green Party after he is done with his independent bids either. I really don’t fit in politically anywhere.

All right I didn’t know Gravel was that old but there goes that option. I guess I am indeed hoping for a Ventura run in 2012 as the best possible option.
Given that Paul and Nader will both be in their late 70s in 4 years, and Gravel in his 80s, that will be hard to pull.
I’d love to see Kubby and or Ruwart actively run for both the LP and GP nominations, but I don’t think it will happen.

I still see some potential in Ventura, even if I disagree with him all over the place. He’ll have to ditch Baja and really get himself involved in some sort of public activity if he want’s to do better than this year’s blip, though.

It would probably take Pau and Nader running on the same ticket and some how just addressing the issues that are important to both of them. That of course is just a ganja tea dream and speaking of which I should sip some to calm down.
I don’t see that happening. Who do you think will bridge the ideological divides?
Jesse Ventura perhaps, but I doubt it.

Sadly I am starting to think that Robert Milnes is right in that we do need a combined third party ticket to have any chance of an impact.

Sanders doesn’t seem to be an independent in any tangible way beyond the “I” next to his name.

I agree re: Kucinich. It’s a fantasy of mine that Senator Sanders of VT makes a break and runs independent for president.

I could never see Kucinich break from his party. He’s always been too ready to defend even the worst of their national candidates and give them progressive cover against third party challengers.
Another interesting possibility might be if Kucinich bolts from the DP. Probably won’t happen, but with him you never know.

Paulie, I just don’t see Johnson or Murphy running the sorts of campaigns that would exist anywhere other than online or in the hearts of the tiny few who even know they’re running.
I’d very easily vote for Ralph Nader again if he were on my ballot, but I don’t feel compelled to campaign for him again in 2012.

Cindy’s good, but her campaign has pulled into more of a fringe direction than I would have liked as it appears she leans in the direction of 9/11 Truther.
I can’t support that.
I love Matt Gonzalez to death and he’s a wonderful candidate and someone who’d be (and has been) a good elected official, but he just doesn’t have the name recognition outside of California to make any sort of real run at the national level.
What we need is a leader with real name recognition who isn’t a fringe kook and has some real experience and is willing to run all-out effectively and take the heat that comes with it.
After Ralph, I don’t see anyone willing to take that place. And the Greens are all but dead as a national party and have become little more than bitter, irrelevant and inept in all but a small handful of states.
But maybe four years of disappointment from Obama and a clean slate will prompt someone decent to run in 2012.

In the latest interview with Gonzalez he said he looked forward to returning to a private life which doesn’t seem to imply he will run for office any time soon.
As I already stated about Sheehan she needs to get elected to a state or local office first so she has some experience behind her. She still has time to do this and in a few years she could possibly be a viable candidate but not until she gets a similar if not greater level of experience than Nader and Gonzalez.
I don’t know, but there’s a real vacuum right now.
I don’t see Ralph running again in four years and the Greens are a sad, bitter shell of their 2000-era selves who’ve devolved into a sectarian fringe conspiracy group.
I’m just going to push ahead on issues activism for the next couple years, as a political independent.
For now, I just don’t see a legitimately well-known and accomplished lefty leader willing to take the heat for running third party that I can see putting on an effective campaign that wouldn’t embarrass me.
Who do you look towards to be the standard bearer for the independent left? I hoped for a better showing for Nader but after this I feel like we need a new candidate. Any ideas?

Oh boo-fucking-hoo!
She and her supporters have tried to derail Ralph more than once.
Even when it was clear that she didn’t have the delegates to win the PFP nomination, Cynthia obviously tried to use her few supporters to throw that nomination away from Ralph Nader to the campaign of Gloria LaRiva – the lady who openly supports the leaders of North Korea.
And despite this, Nader has never publically attacked her for it and has avoided the nastiness that the Greens threw his way in this election.
That and her supported tried to toss Nader off as a draft candidate in multiple states. And even without running, he beat the pants off of her.
So, screw you, McKinney. The Greens failed all their own, ran a lackluster campaign, seemingly avoided mainstream press. If anyone killed the Green Party, it was the Greens themselves.
Be happy with the fringe coalition you built for yourselves with kooks like the Workers World Party and the 9/11 Truthers.
She had nearly six months’ time of campaigning before Nader jumped into the race to be an effective candidate and she squandered that.
