On the Campaign Trail/Welcome to the Machine
With one-party [Democratic Party] ruling City Hall since 2003, some have argued that Alexandria is run by a political machine. But nobody has made the argument quite as forcefully as independent City Council candidate Rich Williamson. During the first candidates’ forum for council candidates the independent candidate accused the city’s ruling elite of wielding power in the shadows.
“We need to break this machine we have at City Hall,” Williamson said during his opening remarks.
