Comics creator Baron suggests ‘Leave Me Alone Party’

At Big Hollywood, comics creator Mike Baron calls for the creation of a “Leave Me Alone Party”. He writes, “There is a right not specifically spelled out in the Bill of Rights but implicit in every restriction on the federal government: the right to be left alone. … Rugged individualism isn’t merely a conceit of John Wayne movies. It has been and will continue to be a way of life for Americans who believe this nation was founded on the rights of the individual. Not the rights of government.” Baron says, “I’m happy to pay taxes if they are reasonable and they go toward legitimate government functions as spelled out in the Constitution and limited in the Bill of Rights. But I’ll be damned if I’m going to be forced to pony up to provide some government drone a luxurious retirement.”

The LP would be his natural home if it could again agree with Jefferson “that to secure these rights [to life and liberty], Governments are instituted among Men” and can have “just powers [derived] from the consent of the governed”. Failing that, the LP should at least resolve to not officially disagree with Jefferson and Baron.
