Goodwell, OK – Stephen Skacall, independent candidate for State Representative in the Oklahoma Panhandle, issued the following statement today following the results of today’s election:
“I’d like to thank everyone who supported me over the past few months. Many people took the initiative to contribute financially to my campaign, as well as to volunteer, put signs in their yards, and most importantly to get out and vote.”
“While the results weren’t what I had hoped they would be, I think the more important thing to look at is the fact that, despite no one knowing who I was just two months ago, and having next to no money with which to run this campaign, I was able to win the trust of voters from all across the Panhandle. These voters were Democrats, Republicans, and independents. That says something pretty significant: Voters of all political beliefs realize that this is the time for us to turn the corner and put our state on the road to success. The “experts” told me that I wouldn’t get more than ten or twelve percent of the vote.
But I shattered those expectations.”
“I’d like to take this opportunity to congratulate Representative Blackwell on his fifth term. I hope that he’ll work to incorporate some of the ideas that I ran this campaign with into his agenda during the next legislative session, and that he’ll take up the causes that I have advocated for.”
“Going forward, I’ve not decided what I will do next politically. However, I think it’s safe to say that this isn’t the last time that I’ll run for office. I expect to run for office again in the near future. Regardless of how things turn out for me politically, I will continue to fight for the ideas that I’ve fought for in this campaign: Eliminating our state grocery tax, fighting illegal immigration, cutting legislative pay, and restoring power to the people. I’ll continue to make my home right here in the Panhandle, and to play an active role in the Goodwell community.”
“Again, I’d like to thank everyone who turned out to vote today. It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to the establishment. That’s one of the biggest reasons I ran this year: to give people a choice.”
