Free & Equal to hold press conference on filing fee bill at 11am tomorrow

Christina Tobin, founder and Chair of Free & Equal, will hold a press conference tomorrow at 11am. Christina will release the language for a proposed bill to allow filing fees in lieu of signatures, for ballot access. The press conference will take place at Free & Equal’s Chicago office on 407 S. Dearborn St., Suite 1107.

Free & Equal has identified both Democratic and Republican sponsors for such a bill in the Illinois state legislature. Christina will also be speaking to the Chicago Bar Association about the bill, at the invitation of their Election Law Committee Chair. Eleven states currently allow the use of filing fees in lieu of signatures.

Christina was quoted today in the Chicago Sun Times regarding filing fees, and reports of corruption and fraud in the petition process for Chicago’s mayoral election.

Also at the press conference will be Jim Tobin, who will speak about his experience running for Governor in 1998, when he collected over 63,000 signatures, but failed to gain access to the ballot. Jim Tobin is Christina’s father.

  1. Catholic Trotskyist December 10, 2010

    At 3, the USA Parliament is a worthy project which has a lot of potential. Unfortunately all great endeavors have a lot of early supporters who end up leaving them, then the team ends up getting a lot of supporters later who are much better and more dedicated and they intensify the battle.
    Mary Ruwart and the other people who quit, are like the people who were in John Lennon’s first band, but quit because they didn’t want to practice long hours; then he found the people who were really as committed to the music as he was, and they became the most well-known band in the world.

    The Catholic trotskyist Party is glad to be on the USA Parliament team and hopes to be a worthy member.

  2. I wrote; […]”Votes are an abstract thing.”

    Should have written; On one hand they are abstract in the sense that how people vote is a concept.

    But on the other hand votes are concrete, and can be kept in stacks which can be copied, or made use of like recounts and so forth.

  3. @3 Get a grip, “Stop Alreadt!”…losing contact is an expression I use to describe The USA Parliament, Inc.’s situation in the D-Day analogy.

    It’s like she’s still fighting herself, but not in communication/coordination with “Allied Central Command” as she had been for three years which is pretty much like three minutes.

    To The USA Parliament, Inc. she’s now one person fighting alone, not coordinated with my team. My team is like a coordinated army approaching the “bunker” from the left, the right and the center. Where decisions are made as a team through voting, advanced decision making on a preference ballot.

    Maybe you don’t get it, about team work, as an army being decimated would try to work together. You’re probably into golf, and don’t understand team play.

    In the D-Day analogy, your comments make you appear that you’re probably into bragging about how much you can accomplish solo. To shun team work, and actually screw up the situation for the more democratically legitimate elected team.

    You’re someone who would get in my face, and waste a lot of precious time and energy flapping your lips, when people all around are being torn up by the flying bullets and bombs.

    If you can’t get the analogy, there’s nothing I can do for you. I’m doing everything I can just to keep my own self alive. You’re lucky I tried to give you the time of day. It’s 0600 hours, on June 6th, 1944.

    At current pace “Battle of the Bulge” is 150,000 years in the future. So how do we speed things up?

    You see our team work, and you’d appear to just criticize what you don’t understand. To rebuff team work when we need it.

    Try to understand this; just think of me as what’s left of a small army, “soldiers of proportional representation”, waiting for reinforcements of the “landing” hopefully coming in behind us. Sure, we lost communication with one, but we gained five.

    I always try to look at the bright side. I know I have friends I can trust and who are there as a team.

    And there are frauds out there, who want to decive or contribute to the disarray.

    All I can do, is try to identify which of them is a friend, which ones are team players under pure proportional representation. Which ones are the ones to avoid. That way, I can play the fun game, with the team players who want to toss the “ball” around; i.e. votes being cast.

    It’s kind of like harmonizing with musicians, it’s something one just enjoys, that can’t be bought by money. Votes are an abstract thing.

  4. Stop Already! December 9, 2010

    For God’s sake Ogle, you didn’t “lose contact” with Mary Ruwart! She very nicely and politely made contact with you and told you to stop using her name.

    You are a wacko. You are playing a fantasy game with the names of people who are, for the majority of them, unaware that you are using them in your game. But, then you actually believe that your game is real.

    You probably hurt your head when you slammed your luggage cart into the barrier between tracks 9 and 10 in London’s King Cross station a few years back.

    Better see a doctor man. There is a real world outside your head.

    There should also be a ballot-access trigger law in each state that says that presidential candidates automatically get on the ballot if they are already have ballot-access in 15 states.

  6. I have bad news. We have lost contact will our best national Prime Minister Mary J. Ruwart [Libertarian]. These are her last words received
    today 12/8/2010;

    “[8:17:48 AM] MaryRuwart: I’m not able to participate in this effort any more. Please take me off your list. Best of luck to you!”

    I will be making the announcement in our bulletin on 1/1/2011. It looks
    like the next highest ranked name is Economics Minister Lawrence Samuels
    [Libertarian].

    We have pretty much lost most contact with all five national executives now. On the Monthly
    Bulletin email list, Economics Minister is to be the next highest ranked name in the Cabinet;
    after Speaker Minister;

    It appears that there is pressure on our supporters, who are favorable to ranking names with opposite gender #1 with consecutively ranked genders thereafter, because we are a threat to their plans.

    I urge anyone who wants a see tool for all parties to work together, who are voting members (MP = national, MSP = super-state or MMP = member of mini-state parliament) to go ahead and vote. We need new executives…although the next highest name will be automatically elected when one stand down, we welcome new nominees.

    They are trying to defeat us and we’re barely ten feet inland on the beach. Our numbers are being decimated.

    Those who are cool, members such as Starchild, don’t have the knowledge to organize under the all party system, so many opportunities are being lost at a rapid pace.

    There are those who want full representation, for example Republicans in SF, because single winner districts don’t allow their representation even though the Republican Party makes up around 17% of the vote, they can’t win 1/11th of the representatives-the eleven supervisorial positions.

    Our positions are being currently attacked by gunners from the pluralists and single winner district supporters.
